Everything about staying here was terrific. The views are outstanding and the hosts are so helpful and become instant friends. No matter how our plans changed, they were willing to accommodate us. What a find!

We went to the Masters Lodge for the art deco and the luxurious intimacy. We visit dozens of 5 star hotels every year and we expected the best. Joan and Larry greatly exceeded our expectations, making this the highlight of our New Zealand trip. If you have the chance to visit Napier, this is the place to stay.

Masters Lodge is a delightful small luxurious lodge close to the centre of Napier. It is beautifully furnished with wonderful pictures and every facility you could want as a traveller. The suite was comfortable, quiet with many individual quality touches.
The best aspect of this lodge however is the hospitality of the owners Larry and Joan. What great people and...

Outstanding. In a league of its own! Joan and Larry Bloom make you feel right at home in their lovely old home on Bluff Hill overlooking Napier and the South Pacific Ocean. Our second stay there. Treated to wonderful food from skilled and friendly chefs and fabulous wine. The Art Deco motif, so fitting in Napier, is another plus. This...

We choose the Lodge as the place we were going to get married after coming across it on the internet. We were excited and looking forward to our stay but we had no idea of the experience we were going to have. The Lodge is gorgeous and the decore is amazing but the heart of the Lodge is Joan and...

We arrived to find this magnificently restored 1800's B&B with a view that could have only been arranged in the stars. The interiors were beautifully done in authentic art deco style. All that was great but what made me take the time to write this review were the hosts and our being spoiled for 2 days.
There's always beautiful accomodations...

We stayed here for two nights.
First, Napier. The town is full of stunning Art Deco buildings and a walking tour is well worth a couple of hours (and an easy walk from the Masters' Lodge). Cape Kidnappers and its Gannet colony are a lot of fun. The golf course at Kidnappers is very scenic, very expensive and very, very...

My husband and I toured both the North and South islands of New Zealand on our honeymoon in May. We stayed at many nice places, including Matakauri Lodge, Riverrun, etc. But our favoite stay was at the Master's Lodge. Joan is possibly the warmest host I've ever encountered. We instantly felt at ease when we were greeted with beer, wine,...

This is one of the best hotels in New Zealand. Situated on Napier hill, looking out towards Cape Kidnappers and the Pacific Ocean.
Napier is located on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island. In 1931 Napier experienced a large earthquake which destroyed most of the city. As a result, Napier was rebuilt in the architectural style of the...
