Good standard hostel, only 10 mins walk from central station or 2 minute walk from the nearest tram. Admittedly not in the hub of everything but a very social hostel with big kitchen/dining area and lovely roof terrace. 8 bed dorms are pokey - feel for the cleaning staff having to find the carpets to hoover. 4 beds are lovely... I have stayed at Melbourne Metro YHA more than once over the last few years. Cleanliness is always pretty good; the rooms especially (I have always had a private room, but friends I've stayed with have used dorm rooms and these seem clean too), and the beds, while very standard fare, are comfortable enough, again with clean linen, etc. Heating/cooling... Very clean hostel! Nice rooftop terrace. The only thing that bothered me, was that it was not cosy. More

Our family of four stayed a couple of nights at the YHA Melbourne Metro. We had a comfortable spacious one bedroom self-contained apartment with a full kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom with a queen sized bed was spacious with a balcony. The kids slept in the large lounge on a pull out sofa bed and a trundle bed. The price... More

The place was easy enough to find thanks to their online instructions from Southern Cross Station. I arrived at 8pm and check in was no problem. But once I got up to the 4 Share room, 2 people were asleep and both the other beds seemed to be half made. To save myself getting too carried away and possibly jumping... More

I enjoyed staying in this hostel earlier this year - I found it well priced and located within about 20 minutes (slow pace) walk of the central city. If you are not inclined to walking there are also excellent transport links close at hand. The rooms were clean and I had two long term residents staying in my room which... More

I stayed at this hostel 5 nights and after a long flight from Singapore, I wasn't impressed with the place and with the service. Here are the things I didn't like: 1 - The hostel is a bit far from the center and it's difficult to find shops and restaurants near by. 2 - You are only able to do... More

I have to admit to being very impressed with Melbourne Metro. As a 1st visit back to hosteling for nearly 15 years I was somewhat apprehensive. But picked YHA due to the higher than average number of good reviews. The hostel is large purpose built as a hostel by YHA, a good start. Very friendly and helpfull staff. An army... More

Went to sydney and melbourne for my trip, both staying at YHAs. the contrast between Sydney Central and Melbourne Metro is quite distinct. Sydney Central seems to be very popular with teens and school groups, making the place lively, and perhaps a little too lively at times. At Melbourne Metro, the crowd are more mature, more "sedated", making it a... More

This was a great hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful and it is kept really clean (all the YHA hostels are). I travelled with a friend and we stayed in an 8-share, all girls room. The room was a little small but there was enough room to do everything you needed. There were a bunch of things we loved... More
