traveling with two friends up from cairns.... we were on our way to cape trib but added 2 nights making it 5 altogether. wish we found this place sooner. top locale 1 block from main street. we started at another backpackers further out of town but the walk was too far after one night we moved. like other travelers love... travelled a fair bit through asia and got really used to having free wifi. hit australia and it's really hard to find or at least you have to constantly buy other stuff to get the access. this place has really good speed and lots of areas to chill out and surf away the day.... free. my dorm was really plain... We stayed in a double. The room and shared bathroom were relatively clean, but the common areas were not clean at all. The pool looked gross, so I didn't go in, which was a tragedy considering how hot it was and how much I love to swim. The free breakfast was kind of a joke, and considering how dirty everything... really sorry to hear of your disappointment. i urge all our customers to remember that we are not competing with the resorts around town. most of our customers do appreciate that for the great budget rates they can access shared or private accommodation, a simple yet fresh and free breakfast and around the clock service by myself, my wife or... am really impressed with the feel of this place. i chose it for location and price, well inclusions actually. there is cheaper in town but not with the same value. i'm very satisfied with my decision and recommend this place to any solo traveler. really warm welcome and friendly people on staff and staying there. location was great, easy walk... thanks for your review - happy to hear your comments. Tod is a great asset as many people have discovered... poolside noise can sometimes be a problem and that's why we maintain no noise policy after 11pm. management do live onsite if things get out of hand but ultimately i guess it comes with the territory when people are enjoying... A big thank you to Mick, Todd and Nat at Parrotfish lodge for a fabulous stay in Port Douglas. It is great to stay in Backpackers where the staff have had loads of backpacking experience themselves so know how to run a proper Hostel. The Parrotfish Lodge is in the ideal location, being in the middle of Port Douglas and... More

I loved my stay at Parrotfish Lodge, and I fully intend to stay there again the next time I'm in that neck of the woods. The staff made me feel like I was part of the family, were always willing and happy to help me or answer questions, and cared about the experience of the people staying there. It's in... More

I really enjoyed my time at parrotfish and would definitely stay there again. It's not right on the main street, so it's quite at night if you want a night in, but it's only a block away, so everything's easy to get to. the rooms were spacious and clean, and it was nice to have bathroom and shower directly off... I enjoyed my time at the Parrotfish lodge. The staff is what made the trip the best. I traveled alone and Port Douglas is somewhat of a quiet place, so finding places to hang out and meet people could have been somewhat of a challenge. Nat, one of the worker-bees there, explored the coast with me and helped me feel... More

hello there, i m thomas from italy. I`ve just had probably the worse experience in australias hostels. i ve already had to deal with bed bugs in the beach house hostel in cairns, almost one year ago. after one year without bites, just after 3 days at the parrot fish lodge i ve found again the horrible bites of that... it's a real pity for us when a customer doesn't take our advice to avoid these kinds of situations. we have strict rules in the hostel about the use of sleeping bags mainly to avoid the instance of bedbugs. when it is found that a customer is ignoring policy we usually ask them to stop and at least clean the... I live in Cairns and work in Port Douglas at Lotsaprint. There was flooding in the Cairns area and I decided rather than risk trying to get home I would find somewhere affordable to stay. Parrotfish Lodge was cheap, affordable and reliable. I checked in late at about 9pm. The staff member on duty, was very friendly and helpful. The... More
