Darwin has had years of backpackers coming thru and some very greedy operators have opened up backpacker places, and charge a lot for a room. This had a good location, but Chillies and Melaleuca on Mitchell, trust me are even better located near the bus terminal and restaurants, and are clean and look to be well run. To their credit... more

The cheapest and best hostel in Darwin (I went to three different hostels). Friendly staff who even gave us some money back because we had paid too much when booking on the internet. Nice dormitory (but old) with fridge and bathroom inside. The only flaw is that the air conditioning is very loud. more

the Darwin YHA was OK as hostels go, but it did feel a bit old and rundown. It was acceptable, but suffered in comparison to some of the newer hostels in town - we moved after two days to the melalaima across the road and got a lovely new room for less than the YHA. more
