I was looking for somewhere cheapish to stay whilst visiting the area.
The price of the majority of hotels in Alice Springs is fairly high and as I was on a trip to Ayers Rock which meant I was hardly going to be spending any of the time in the room anyway, I elected to stay at YHA even though...

I stayed here for 2 nights and overall it's a good place to stay. The kitchen is large, clean and well stocked; there is a large common area with TV; there's a nice outdoor area that shows movies on a big screen. The hostel is centrally located, close to downtown, so you can walk anywhere you need to go I...

We spent 3 nights at Alice Springs Pioneer YHA and at first it was awesome! Good location, spacious and clean facilities and generally friendly staff. Until there was a problem.
On our last night Amy, one of female receptionists, allocated us to a dorm bed that seemed to be empty but was in fact occupied. During the night we were...

I wouldn't tell people not to stay here, but I can't say that it's truly wonderful.
This hostel suffers from the same problem that many hostels in the area do: it's too big. This results in a much less comfortable atmosphere, where you aren't made to feel as special as you would do in another smaller place. I don't blame...

Before going to YHA in Alice Springs, I stayed in YHA in Melbourne and Canberra, which I thought was worth my money. My experience in Alice Springs of the YHA was so different (even though they charge you the same than in Melbourne and Canberra YHA). It was dirty: the kitchen as well as the room I was in. And...

Stayed here twice before and after an Uluru tour, like most of the rest of the hostel!
The private double was fine, nothing special but clean and a reaonable size. The pool was pleasant and we had it ourselves each time we used it. We didn't really use the kitchen but it seemed ok. The shower facilities were adequate but...

Pleased with how clean and tidy and organised everything was (not being a big fan of slumming it!). The kitchen was well equipped and clean. The pool is a bonus. We had a comfortable night and it was convenient for the town.

This place is very well located in central Alice Springs, near to the "sails". The site used to be a drive-in cinema, and the history is kept alive with nightly outdoor film screenings. The staff were very helpful, organising groups of travellers for airport transfers (More people in a taxi = money saved) and storing bags for those going off...

3 nights in a 4 share room was great value, compared to motel prices. Had read quite a few comments on the YHA site that the kitchen was dirty - well the problem is dirty guests, not lack of effort by staff. Kitchen starts out clean each day, but soon lazy and thoughtless guests leave dishes around or splash stuff...
