Having read many reviews on the Shangri La we decided to bust the budget and booked a Deluxe Opera House View room for three nights including New Years Eve. The first room we were given was on a smoking floor and was really unpleasant, we didn't request a smoking room and were not asked if we would like one. We... more

Very hot and humid, we changed rooms three times and every room had the same problem, insufficient AC. The breakfast buffet is terrible. Overall, would not recommend this hotel, definitely not a five star quality. more

To the author, Thank you for review and please allow me to apologise for any air-conditioning problems you may have experienced during your stay with us. Having to move rooms three times is totally unacceptable and certainly not something we would want our guests to be forced to do. We have a constant preventative maintenance program installed here at Shangri-La...

Second time at this hotel view stays the same ,best in sydney but everything else very average compared to other shangri-la hotels i have stayed at in the far east, club rooms not worth the extra money. If you have stayed in other shangri-la hotels you will be dissapointed with the hotel ambience but not... more

Thank you to the author for their honest review of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney. We do very much appreciate your kind words on the view from our rooms, however are concerned that you feel other aspects of the hotel are average and not up to standard with our other properties. I will certainly pass on your thoughts to our executive office...

We were returning to Sydney 2 years after last visiting and wanted a quality hotel in the heart of the city. We decided to go with one of the big names down near the front and read various revies on this site. We have stayed at the Shangri-la Singapore and decied to go for this one in Sydney. Having booked... more

From the second we walked into this hotel, we were greeted and looked after with dedicated personal attention. Escorted to our room we enjoyed a luxurious 48hrs at the end of a Canberra Business Trip. Hotel offered Moet & Chandon inclusive along with all of the finese and detail of a high quality 5* hotel overlooking Sydney Opera House and... more

As we don't expect to spend many New Year's Eves in Sydney we decided to treat ourselves to an Opera House View room for 4 nights at the end of a month long trip down under. It cost us an arm and a leg and we were expecting something "special" from this hotel to end our trip. The positives were:-... more

We stayed 3 nights in the Deluxe Grand Harbour View room, which overlooks the Opera House and Sydney harbour Bridge. The view is spectacular, both day and night. The room very spacious and clean. The hotel is at the top of the Rocks, so a bit of a climb if walking, and handy to the Rocks Markets at the weekend.... more

Many thanks to the author for their review of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney. I do thank you for your kind comments about the spectacular views from our rooms as well the size of the rooms - some of the largest rooms in the 5 star CBD hotel market. Our location is also very convenient for all of Sydney's main attractions such...

So my wife and I are on our honeymoon and first stop (for 5 nights) is the supposedly 5-star Shangri-La Sydney. We've spent the better part of 4 hours (and missed a dinner reservation) trying to resolve room issues. First room: they sell two twin beds joined and covered with a thin featherbed as a "king" ... at least this... more

To the author, First impressions are everything - especially in the hospitality industry - and I sincerely apologise that your first impressions of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney, and your arrival experience, was somewhat tarnished by the unfortunate experience of being placed in an incorrect room type. A small number of our rooms have selected king/2 x twin bed configurations, and I...

The Shangri-La is in a great location in The Rocks district of Sydney. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Harbor Bridge and Opera House and about a 20 minute walk to Darling Harbor. My flight from Los Angeles arrived early and I arrived to the hotel about 1000 in the morning. I got my room right away,... more

Many thanks to the author for their positive review of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney. Stayed here for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday and booked a Horizon deluxe grand harbour view room. Room had a spectacular view of the harbour; furniture a little weary but acceptable; large bathroom; the bed did look a bit wrinkled and untidy (not the usual 5 star presentation) - but overall an agreeable start to our stay.... more

To the author, Please allow me to sincerely apologise for this obvious drop in our usual high standard of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney's housekeeping service. We pride ourselves on our efficient and high standard of room service and complaint recovery, and while the issue was resolved, I agree with the author it should have never been an issue in the first...
