We've been coming back here for many years: a delight every time!
Wide choice of rooms to suit many a budget: clean, reasonably equipped (some quite luxurious) with a beautiful garden and surroundings. But the staff is the best: from the cook to the attendants, the manager to the cleaners, all courteous and helpful to a fault. The food is excellent: you can even order special dishes the day ahead. Then there are the magnificent terracotta temples (17th/18th centuries) nowhere else in such profusion. The markets, the famous handicrafts (silk, wood, metal) items make for a memorable visit. The people are friendly and talkative, welcoming outsiders. The only problem is booking your stay: one has to go to the Tourist Office in Kolkata, though this may have changed in the last year or so.
Other Government of West Bengal Tourist LOdges dot the countryside, not all are of equal quality but the ones in Darjeeling and Digha are v.good
