Perched up a steep hill with fantastic views and no neighbours, this little gem is run by Mikel who does all the cooking to a very high standard. He renovated the house over the years and it is beautiful and very comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute, he was very helpful with where to eat and... More

Perched up at the top of a hill, this is a little gem of a place. Travelling as three friends, we stayed three nights in Mikel's Casa Rural. The house is comfortable, the setting is stunning and nothing was too much trouble for our host, who even let us watch him prepare the totally delicious food. We went on two... More

We booked a room in Casa Rural Ametzola for four days to explore the rural Basque countryside. We left from San Sebastian by car. As we drove closer and closer to the guesthouse the countryside became more and more beautiful, with mountains and thick forests. We were warmly welcomed by Mikel, Belen and Zintxo (the loyal and social dog). The... More

It is worth going out of your way to stay a couple of days, or more, with Mikel at Ametzola. Peaceful, remote setting; exquisitely restored farm house with all modern+ conveniences; excellent food (some of the dishes he served were comparable to those at the Michelin restaurants we went to in San Sebastian); and outstanding hospitality. Kids will like feeding... More

We stayed here for two nights after two weeks in Catalunya before we got the ferry from Santander back home. It is quite hard to find so well tucked away. I stayed with my husband and three children aged 14, 12 and 8. They all loved it. Michel, the host is so relaxed the kids could relax and enjoy. They... More

I spent at Ametzola two of my best days in Spain. Silence, calmness, harmony and pastoral views - this simply cannot be too much. Special and unforgettable impressions are about the home - authentic - but at the same time extremely handy and comfortable. Do not deprive yourself Mikel’s meals - a gastronomic delight of top class! Next visit to... More

We stayed with Michel in Ametzola for three days in September and would definitely recommend staying there if you have the opportunity. We had a great time there and exploring the region. Stunning scenery, a beautifully restored house, fantastic hospitality and the most amazing food prepared by Michel (really really amazing food!). Worth asking for a room at the top... More

I think this is the best place I have ever stayed. We were in the Bilbao area for about a week and stayed here for the first couple of nights. We then stayed in a boutique hotel in San Sebastian which we checked out of early so we could come back here. The house (an interesting 3-storey farmhouse which is... More
