I stayed at the Waipoua Lodge after working in New Zealand for several days. Ian and Fran's hospitality was amazing. Everything about the lodge was incredible. I can truly say this is one of the best places I have ever stayed and I am a frequent worldwide traveler! Breakfasts and dinners were the best I have ever tasted. Not only... More

Waipoua Lodge is on the edge of Waipoua Forest the area dedicated to the conservation of Kauri trees. This is an area that is well worth visiting in the north of North Island and if you do, stay at the Waipoua Lodge. This small hotel is a haven of hospitality, excellent facilities and first rate (Michelin standard) cuisine. Ian and... More

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review and we are delighted that you have highlighted that Northland has far more to offer than just the well known east coast Bay of Islands. Those that travel this west coast think it is absolutely amazing and well worth visiting to see not only the ancient kauri trees... More

I took my seven year old daughter to view the Waipoua forest and thought we would spoil ourselves for for a few nights of R&R. I wasn't prepared for how nice this place is, Ian and Fran are the perfect hosts, the food is exceptional, and it is very kid friendly but there are boundaries so other guests are not... More

A great place to stop for a night or two enroute to the Kauri forest/Cape Reinga. Wonderful surrounds, comfortable and clean accommodation, warm, generous hosts and a plethora of activities to keep the kids entertained. Very personal service for all the family - quiz sheets and certificates for the kids and delicious meals and wine. More

We stayed two nights in March 2012 and Fran's excellent cooking spoiled us for the rest of the trip. Ian and Fran were wonderful hosts, our room was spacious with a living, kitchen, bedroom and bath. Sitting in the jacuzzi on the edge of the forest was delightful. I would definitely recommend this lodge while staying on the north island. More

We are thrilled that you enjoyed the cuisine at the lodge. As you know, cooking is my passion and it is wonderful to know that even though we are a relatively small operation, we are comparable with other well known New Zealand restaurants. Kind regards Ian and Fran More

The title says it all. Ian and Fran will do just about anything to gratify their clients. Ian was particularily helpful in suggesting what to do in the area, and Fran's culinary talents were a joy to experience. Sitting chatting with them about their experiences and our stories was fun enough to make the visit. I'm sure you'll feel the... More

Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review and we are very pleased that you enjoyed the overall experience of staying at the lodge and believe it is good value. We try very hard to make sure that our 'luxury' experience extends to far more than just the suite itself. Kind regards Fran & Ian More

We stayed here as a treat for my parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. We stayed in the Tack Rooms which was perfect for the 4 of us. We received a warm welcome from Fran & Ian, had a relaxing time in the outdoor, private jacuzzi then a wonderful meal in the beautiful lodge. In the morning the breakfast was... More

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Lodge at the start of our honeymoon - and our hosts made us feel so special. The food was delicious from homemade bread rolls, dinners using local produce and the signature lemon soufflé for pudding. On our first night we had a superb dinner on our own private table overlooking the... More
