My wife and I are not normally "resort people" -- preferring to stay at B&Bs or smaller non-chain hotels, but we had heard amazing things about the Mauna Kea so decided to check it out. We splurged on one of the newly renovated deluxe ocean view rooms, and while it was expensive, everything about our stay was wonderful. The resort's... More

My wife and I felt this was the best of the hotels/resorts we stayed at during our vacation in Hawaii. With my wife in the archectiture/ interior design disciplines, we really enjoyed the retro/modern inspiration of both the rooms and the resort. We especially enjoyed the way the resort embraced the climate by having most of the common areas in... More

This beach resort was incredible. Beautiful location, amazing beach. The resort was originally set up for room service only- now there are restaurants on site. The collection of museum quality priceless artwork and commissioned framed quilts in the hallways and niches are wonderful. We were greeted with leis, a cool facecloth and a refreshing glass of tropical juice. The reception... More

The sleek, Asian-inspired architecture of the Mauna Kea is reason enough to go there, especially after the extremely successful renovation that remained faithful to the hotel’s Mad Men mid-century modern esthetic. We were swept away by the MK on our first visit in the late ‘80s, and have made the trek from New York to the Big Island 20+ times... More

Just got back from a wonderful week at the Mauna Kea with my extended famliy. It's a fantastic place to stay with a large family group because it is a very spacious property with beautiful grounds and a fabulous beach. My only complaint is that the bar closes at 9:30 at night even if you want to stay on longer... More

We stayed here for five days in early April in a Golf Vista room. The resort and beach are beautiful and the service was great all around (the valet, concierge, housekeeping, etc.). We had dinner at Manta one night and highly recommend it. Also recommend ordering room service and eating breakfast on the lanai, and having cocktails at the Copper... More

We arrived for spring break with one teenaged child. We all had a fabulous time. The room was beautiful. The beach was beautiful. The vibe was relaxing.

The location of this hotel, on the exquisite Mauna Kea Bay, is second to none. The beauty of the surroundings and of the hotel property itself are stunning. The pristine pool is perched up high, overlooking the ocean. Service is excellent all-around and very refined. I would go back every 6 months if I could!!!

Mauna Kea is a beautiful resort. The best thing about the hotel is the beach. The big Island isn't know for it's beaches, but this one is truly awesome. I stayed at the Mauna Lani the first 5 nights and finished off our trip at the Mauna Kea our last 3. There are many mega resorts to choose from but... More

my mother and I had brunch at Manta two Sundays ago, and I couldn't believe how good it was. As you can tell from the other reviews, the setting is magnificent, a rare white sandy gem in a sea of ancient lava flows (there were even parrots in the trees :). But we weren't staying at the hotel, just came... More
