We were looking for a secluded, peaceful hideaway on beautiful Kangaroo Island. Eleanor River offered everything we were looking for and then some! Wonderful hosts, luxury accommodation, amazing scenery, the opportunity to get up close with wildlife and a well deserved break from our hectic lives! Highly recommended...... we will definitely be back!!! More

We stayed 4 nights at Eleanor River Homestead in February 2012 and this place is really remarkable. The cottage is very cozy - yet modern and very clean. The surroundings are just breathtaking with lots of beautiful yacca palms everywhere. It is very central located at the middle of the island with easy access to all attractions - and a... More

We stayed here January 2012 for 3 nights. We are a family of 5. It really is off the beaten track which adds to the uniqueness of this property. I will just start with 1 or 2 negatives. When we arrived Graeme our friendly host greeted us and said if we would like to walk up to the main homestead... More

Thank you for your review and for your suggestions. In respond to your negative points. Firstly it is unfortunate that you found dirty cutlery and we appreciate being informed of such occurrences. When you contacted us you were advised that we didn't have scourers or brushes and we explained the reason was to protect the non stick surfaces. We also... More

We chose the location because it was central and a friend had recommended it. It's about a 10min drive from the mainroad, no street lights, slightly bumpy ride, but it leads you to your own private bungalow and open space. no fences so you in the early mornings you may see kangaroos and other wildlife just metres away from your... we couldnt have imaginied staying anywhere else. The peaceful location just you and the wild life. Sitting on the deck watching the sun go down. Located in the heart of KI it was the perfect place to stay to visit the entire island. The cabin was spacious, very clean and fully equipped with top end finishes. The fire provided more... More

Our stay at the Eleanor River Homestead was the end to our 2 weeks Australia adventure. We rented (hired) a car in Melbourne from Thrifty and drove the great ocean road down to Cape Jervis and took the ferry across. Word to the wise: FLY! The weather was bad on this particular day and it took us 3 hrs in... More

My husband and I, plus uncle & aunty stayed here for 4 wonderful nights. It was a great location as it was in the middle of the island, therefore handy to all places. We arrived at 6pm, and drove there in the dark. There was very clear instructions given to us and it was well signposted. The cabin is just... More

Staying here made our Kangaroo Island visit unforgettable. It was an experience more than just accommodation. The cabin was awesome and had everything we needed for our stay. Its location was excellent in terms of exploring the island, and it felt like we had our own piece of the wilderness. Kangaroos, echidna, goannas, and all sorts of birds right at... More

While Flinder's Chase is the classified National park on Kangaroo Island, the whole island has the feel of a National Park. Within this island park, Eleanor River Homestead is like a private reserve. We stayed at the beginning of a 5 week tour of Australia. Eleanor River has tremendous outlook, ambience and the accommodation is excellent. We spotted our first... More

When planning our visit to Kangaroo Island, I wanted a place that would capture the wilderness that the island offers. In previous trips to Australia, I've done a lot of camping but this time we were traveling with our 5 and 3 year old kids so we needed more amenities but I didn't want to stay in Kingscote or Penneshaw...
