I've stayed with Roger and Luisa at the Hotel Casablanca several times over the last 10 years, and enjoyed each stay there. This small, but comfortable, hotel is located near the center of town and features good food and reasonable wifi. The owners and staff are always ready to help and serve to make your stay better. San Marcos is close to many great tourist sites in and around Granada, too.

For Nicaragua standards this is a pricey hotel located in San Marcos Nicaragua. The city of san marcos doesn't get running water for most of the day therefore you have to ask the front desk to turn on the water for shower. However, several times we had our water turned off while still showering. Front desk customer service is ok. they seem to be more concerned with turning of your hot water than making sure you have showered before they do so. This is a nicely built hotel but little to no real attention was given to noise control, moskitos, breakfast and backup electricity (the electricity shut down while I was still there) the front desk didn't offer much assistant other than a candle which turned off within an hour. If you want to stay in a beautifully built hotel but which has no noise control (bedroom face the road) this is the place to be. However, for the price there are places like hotel San Pedro and Hostal El Angel both offer good alternatives.

I stayed here with my wife when we decided to take off one day and head somewhere cooler (being that we lived in Leon). We were immediately impressed by the presentation of the building. It looked very beautiful from the outside. We were greated by a woman who was the owner (along with her husband). She was very nice and helpful. She showed us our room that was very small but was just fine. I have stayed at many places in Nicaragua because I live here, and Casablanca is very clean and tidy. Before I forget, they have a little banquet hall on the second floor so anyone looking for something like this in the area, there is one -- also the outdoor patio where you eat is very spacious. At any rate, the only issue that we had, which was very frustrating at that time, was that it was super cold outside and they advertise hot showers....but both my wife and I took a shower in the evening after walking around all day, and the hot water was only on for about 5 or 6 minutes. My wife went first so she got the hot water (I know, I am such a nice guy :P) but about 45 seconds into my shower when I was belting out how great this was jajaja the hot water turned into a thousand little knives of freezing drops. My wife went to the front desk to find out what was up and they turned off the hot water (because we had to let them know first to turn it on before we took our showers) and that they would not turn it on for any longer. Other than this, I would have rated the location higher, but being that the price is pretty expensive for Nicaragua, I would have expected my hot shower! But, in the same turn, I understand the cost of electricity having lived here for many years and being a business owner myself....but it would have been nice to get a heads up that a glacier was about to attack me! After the shower, we wanted to get out of the room, but it was kind of late and nowhere was open so we asked the owner (the husband this time) if there was somewhere we could sit. He led us to a nice quiet patio in the back behind where the dining area is. We spent the next 2 hours there enjoying the cool and fresh night air just talking. No cars, no dust, no bugs and hot weather like are used to. It was very relaxing. The next morning the owner (the wife this time) asked us if we were hungry. She brought us to the dining area where she made us a decent breakfast with coffee. We checked out that morning and found another hotel for less than half the price because all we really needed was a safe and clean place to sleep. I saw the owners again at Pricemart in Managua a little while later and they came up and said hi because they remembered us. All and all, I would recommend this place, but just make sure to tell them not to turn the hot water off in the middle of your shower! A little pricey, but in a generally safe area and definitely clean and quiet.

We were on a discovery trip to Nicaragua and looking for friendly people, small town, good climate, and in a good citrus growing area to possibly retire to. We found it all in San Marcos, Carazo, Nicaragua. A most pleasant surprise was the Casablanca Hotel and Convention Center. Situated about 3 blocks from the Square, it was quiet and safe. The hotel was meticulously clean and well cared for. The room was very comfortable, the woodwork ceiling, doors, and trim appeared to be genuine native lumber and very beautifully finished and cared for. The staff was exceptionally welcoming and courteous. The included breakfast was wonderful with the best Nicaraguan coffee, fresh fruit plate, and a genuine Nicaraguan breakfast of Gallo Pinto, Eggs, & Avocado. The owners, Roger and Luisa were the most accommodating and gracious hosts. We hope to return someday to visit our friends at Casablanca Hotel.

I had a recommendation to stay here from a friend who had stayed here a couple of times and so glad I did!! What a lovely hotel and great owners and staff. The hotel sits 3 blocks from the main square in a very safe walkable neighborhood. San Marcos is a beautiful town, much cooler than many parts of Nicaragua. The hotel has rooms with or without A/C. I would say that you would probably be fine without it. They have a pretty yard with hammocks and several different sitting areas. The dining area is really large and the breakfast was incredible. The best I have had in all of Nicaragua. It was Huge! You just told them what time you wanted it and when you showed up it was ready and waiting. There was hot water for the showers, you just needed to let them know when you wanted to use it so they could heat it up for you. Free fast wifi Many good restaurants in the area within walking distance. Clean, comfortable rooms. The owners were really kind and helpful and very interesting people. I have no problem recommending this place to anyone traveling through Nicaragua and feel this would be a great place to stay and use as a base for traveling in this part of Nicaragua.
