The room was beautiful, the setting so peaceful, would go back again - worth the plane trip just for the home baked bread at breakfast. Really helpful host, but unobtrusive. Would need a car, or could manage on a bicycle, plenty in the area to see without travelling too far. If you've enjoyed watching 'Single-handed', you need to go and... More

We received a warm welcome from Carmel when we arrived at the beautiful Railway Lodge in the late afternoon after a long day of driving in the beautiful Connemara region. Railway Lodge is beautifully decorated with Irish pine, and elegant antiques and linen. It is a modern building built with the charm and ambience of an old one, and the... More

We were so pleased we chose to stay here. Carmel is a splendid hostess and her breakfasts are magnificent. We had the very comfortable little self contained cottage but took breakfast in the house. The bed linens are sumptuous. It was too far to walk into town for evening meals, particularly in the rain. The best bet for eating seemed... More

Actually, our stay in this bed and breakfast was in 2002. The place was so good, however, that I feel I should comment on it. They have expanded to include a separate cabin, especially useful for families. The location is a bit out-of-the-way, but not far from the Shannon airport. When we arrived on Easter Sunday, we phoned the lodge... More

Only good things to say about Railway Lodge. Carmel was so easy to work with via email prior to our stay and the wonderful graciousness and welcome extended thruout our stay. We were only there 1 night (myself and my 9 year old daughter) and I so wish we could have stayed longer. (We were on the move with lots... More

We spent 4 nights in the self-catering cottage at Railway Lodge. We were greeted with tea and scones in the common room of the main lodge which gave us time to unwind before settling into the cottage. The rooms were comfortable and decorated beautifully -- like living in Beatrix Potter's world. The kitchen is small but well equipped. Carmel provided... More

We felt at home as soon as we arrived at the Railway Lodge. Carmel has decorated her comfortable home with lovely antiques. A classy change from the Irish lace. Our rooms were immaculate with top quality linens in a comfortable bed. Breakfast was included and all ingredients were fresh. We spent the rest of our stay in Ireland looking for... More

This B&B is off the beaten path. It is quiet and restful with a friendly and helpful owner. The grounds are lovely. You could relax in the sun room and look up to see beautiful flowers. More

I can't say enough about this B&B (not sure why it is listed in hotel group, it's really a B&B)! This was our favorite stay during our trip to western Ireland, and by far the least expensive of the places we stayed. It is a great location from which to explore other areas on day trips. When you return from... More

I was there with my husband and teenage children for a week, we had the best time ever, Carmel was so nice! There was loads to do! We walked and cycled every day. We also went on a fab boat trip on the Corrib! We walked our dogs by the old railway track next to the Lodge. At the waterfall... More
