I really enjoyed my stay at Jan Harmsgat. The staff were so professional, room was spacious and food was excellent. It's also full of history as it was built in 1700's. My only regret is I didn't stay longer.

We stayed at JHG during X-mas 2011 and were absolutely blown away by the warmth and hospitality. Everything from the wonderful rooms to fantastic food and excellent service was first class. Gerda, the manager, was a rock having everything in control and always with a smile. Willie was an excellent host and it was a joy to see with what...

We were driving on the garden route up to Cape Town. At first when we arrive at Jan Harmsgat, our impression was: this is really remote. Bonnievale, near Swellendam, is 100% rural with very extensive farms. We saw ostriches on the way and very nice landscapes.
But Jan Harmsgat is an experience on its own: we were welcome by one...

Jan Harmsgat was a stop-over for us on the drive from Knysna to Cape Town. My wife and I stayed here for just one night – December 30. We stayed in a luxury room that was equipped with all that one expects from a 4 or 5-star property. The attention to detail at Jan Harmsgat is impeccable and the manager...

We have just got back from traveling around the Winelands and this was by far the favorite place we stayed. The guest house is located on a large farm with beautiful surroundings. The hospitality from everyone was fantastic, Tristan the waiter was great, very friendly and as professional as you would expect from a good restaurant in Cape Town. The...

A brilliant place to stay. Excellent dining in an gloriously atmospheric restaurant. The dinner is not to be missed. The building itself has a comfortable upstairs lounge whilst outside there is a good pool area. Superb accommodation with a well designed, spacious en suite. Very well run with attentive staff. Fascinating local fruit growing area to tour locally. Pomegranate orchards...

A great relaxed stopover in the Robertson wine valley. An authentic, friendly country home. All the staf are willing to stop and chat and everyone has a smile on their faces. Breakfast has a limited menu but what you get is good quality (fruits, omelletes, full english available). Our dinner was the 4 course option and was very good quality...

What a wonderful relaxing stopover. Quiet and friendly, a tonic for us on our tour of South Africa.

We have homes in Cape Town and Knysna. If we have the time, these days we prefer to break the journey between them, and overnight somewhere interesting in the Swellendam to Robertson area. Earlier this year we decided to try a night at Jan Harmsgat. It was a good choice.
The property is full of character, and the accommodation was...
