Hey everyone, we took over this beautiful pub/restaurant in august 2021, we are very happy to be here. We have a large car park and a lovely beer garden. We are currently serving food on selected days of the week and have a lovely selection of lager, ales and spirits available
Sunday lunch at the Malt Shovel was a lovely experience with a warm welcome, great quality food served by attentive staff who can’t do enough for you - without being intrusive or overbearing, the balance was just right and you know you’re in good hands with Sheryl, Kerri and the team. The sharing platter was exemplary and it lived up to its reputation and managed to beat my already high expectations - it smashed it! Can’t wait to go back in a week or two when they introduce their range of home made desserts

Had Sunday lunch today. this is the second time we have eaten at this establishment on a Sunday . The food is absolutely outstanding. The first visit we had The Roast Dinner, today we shared a Roast Dinner platter to share. OMG whish I had taken a photo it was fantastic. Huge portions served up by pleasant helpful staff. Nothing was to much trouble for them. Plan on taking the whole family next. Thankyou

We went for Sunday lunch and decided to try the sharing "Piggy Platter" which was hot scotch eggs, crispy pork crackling and crumbled black pudding on crusty bread. It was very delicious and so filling we have had to leave the main course for another day! A warm welcome and nice surroundings completed the experience.

Great beer, food and atmosphere. Attended with my football club yesterday. As president its great to have a lovely pub to bring the opposition back to. Great service on tap here. Just go check out this pub. It just cannot be faulted. (Lovely and warm too!)

Great atmosphere - friendly and lovely to see/hear so many locals. Food was excellent. We shall definitely be visiting again in the near future. Could be a certain for Sunday lunch after a walk with the dog!

After a good walk in the area taking in Alport this pub was just the job for a pint and lunch. Dog also very welcome, even though we were all a touch wet. Pub is also very close to Wirksworth which is at the bottom of the hill and Cromford.

My family built this pub/inn, (as it was). It was weird, (in some sense), that my dormant DNA was still reacting through every wall that I touched when I visited 8 years ago. My family owned and built 'The Malt Shovel' and the adjacent farms over a long time from the mid 1800's. Even today my heart leaps at the possible arduous agricultural journey down to unload produce at Wirksworth; and the far more pleasant visit to my predecessors ladies in Crich. Really hope that the Malt Shovel does well on the artery road that my forebears thought would be a good place. You have great reviews for your hospitality, my G G G Grandfather would be well pleased - well done ! Jon Greatorex

Been a few times for Sunday Lunch now and both times have been great!! Proper local pub, but very welcoming to tourists and those walkers that are forever popping in! I’d not been for years as hadn’t heard much about the place, but glad it’s back on the up, another Sunday pub to visit!!

We were made to feel exceptionally welcome by the very friendly land lord and landlady when we stopped by for drinks, so much so we planned our next days walk around stopping here for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, home made, hot and plentiful. Once again for such a small local pub, as tourists we were made to feel so welcome. Would highly recommend this lovely pub.

Popped in over the Bank Holiday weekend. We were greeted by a Very friendly Landlord and most accommodating. The drinks & snacks we had were well priced too. We must go back soon and sample the bar Menu for a Sunday Lunch and enjoy the Beer Garden again
