The room was nicely decorated it had a TV but no hairdryer, it was quite clean although spotting a previous guests make-up pencil on the floor by the bed made me wonder what else was missed. The en-suite was a small low standard shower only affair. It had an electric towel rail which didn't make much difference to the temperature... More

When i initially booked this accomodation, the people on the other end seemed friendly and helpful. I asked alot of questions as there were 8 of us looking to stay! I asked about breakfast and was told it was "included" in the cost of the accomodation of £65, albeit at a (In my opinion) fairly early time (during the Christmas... More

I stayed in the family room at the beginning of December with my mother and sister. I had booked it as a suprise as it was the Victorian Christmas Matlock that weekend. What a disappointment, upon arrival there had been no heating left on the room. My 74 year old mother could not stop trembling as she was so cold.... More

very nice country inn, the rooms were fine, a few little touches would have made it even better. we arrived at about 4-00pm, was shown to our room but no heating had been turned on, could have warmed it up a bit for us!! the room was very nice but lacked a few bits and pieces, namely a bath mat,... My friends and family visited the Duke of Wellington a few months ago and discovered that, at lunch-time, they had no fish or ham, not a good start. Minimal gravy was served with the pie so extra gravy was ordered, it was disgusting. We decided not to go there again in a hurry. Then we received a flyer through the... More

This review is in relation to the Pub dining experience. And it certainly was an experience! WARNING: If you only have an hour lunch break you will not have time to sample the food, let alone “enjoy” it! The service was achingly slow and incompetent. The staff were constantly distracted to the point that several of our small party had... More

Stayed at the Duke in early July for a weekend, had a fantastic time, hospitatility and service was ecellent, I had a steak, sirloin, cooked medium and it was one of the best I've had in sometime; also the breakfast was well presented and the quantity more than set us up for the day. The manageress, Lisa, and staff provided... More

First of all i would like to say that i do not like leaving bad reviews but i need to be honest about this place. I am not a moaner but would like to save someone else facing the same disgusting service we received. I booked a family room 3 months in advance, over the phone with the owner/manager and... More

Stayed here for one night. Had not read the previous reviews, but wish I had now! Upon arrival we had to pay for our room and breakfast (which was an additional cost to the £65 already paid). Not the best welcome on arrival, all seemed very disorganised. From the outside the rooms look lovely, converted stables (I think) right next... More
