A charming hotel with plenty of character, built in 19th century. The Lasserre family has been receiving guests for 4 generations and look forward to welcoming you. The carefully chosen decor adds a sense of romance to the atmosphere. The hotel has been completely refurbished and, although it has all modern comforts, its traditional charm and warmth have been preserved. Nearby: hiking/skiing in the Parc National des Pyrénées, Lourdes , Gavarnie, col du Tourmalet...
Absolutely Lovely family-run hotel with traditional French Pyrenees decor. We decided to eat in the hotel for 4 nights despite Cauterets having lots of eating and drinking locations - their menu of the day was fab and reasonably priced. What impressed us the most was the service with Tomas (very good English) pretty much doing everything whilst supported by his lovely aunts who did the cooking - home from home! Great comfy bedroom and the outside courtyard had 4 amusing tortoises. Central but quiet location. Parking was little challenging but far outweighed by the rest of what was a very positive and enjoyable experience.

This hotel represents the best of the family-run 3* French hotel genre; one which is hard to find these days. Owned by the same family for generations and the pride shows. Has "everything you want and nothing you don't" - great breakfast, friendly service, impeccably clean, fridge and coffee maker in the room. No AC but you don't need it. Dinner available on pre-arrangement. Discount for nearby hot springs.

What a wonderful hotel! We spent 6 nights and loved our stay. Location great for spectacular hiking, cute town, rooms are modern and beautifully decorated, Thomas and his mother are very welcoming hosts, breakfast was excellent and dinners delicious (love the soups). Nice bar and lounge area and need to check out the garden with the tortoises. Highly recommend this hotel if you like to hike or ski.

This is a lovely family hotel. It is charming and genuine and full of things to marvel at. We came with our 3 children and our mother and we all had a superb time. The 3 kids aged 18,16 and 14 gave it 9/10, which is an amazing teenage review. The 3 course dinners were authentic French food of a very high standard, the rooms were charming and the inner courtyard was a lovely place to soak up some sun and relax outside your room. Everything was very carefully thought out, Thomas, our host, was a wonderfully helpful man and we had a wonderful experience. We could not recommend it more.

This is a lovely, quirkily laid out, old school, family run hotel, with great food. The dinners are traditional French family cooking at its best and plenty of it. Our room, with mountain views both ways was comfortable. There are a lot of stairs, but a lift too. We would go back, and don’t hesitate to recommend it.

This is super family-run hotel. Lots of traditional character, with modern details in the rooms. Central for easy walking around town, generous breakfast and dinner available for residents. Very friendly and helpful family owners are present all day

Upon our arrival to France we spent 3 nights in the comfortable, welcoming, historic hotel. It was filled with lovely quirks & unexpected surprises, like the turtles who live out on one of the patios. The winding staircase was such fun!! The family who run the hotel were lovely & attentive. The food superb (best breakfast in ALL our French stays). Tomas was always ready to make a cocktails (necessary after a hard day’s hiking). His mother & aunt were busy baking, cooking, serving, as was he. Located in the middle of this quiet & lovely town with shops & stores for hiking lunch supplies. Don’t miss this place!

Lovely old style family hotel in the centre of a picturesque town. Our 3rd floor double room was large, comfortable, well appointed and tastefully decorated. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, which showed itself even before we arrived, when Tomas e-maied me with details of a road closure on the D-918 mountain pass at the Col d'Aubisque, en route to Cauterets. We were there for one night in early June, but the season obviously hadn't started as even though it was a Saturday night, everywhere was closed apart from 2 bars and a pizza place. Happily, we had dinner in the hotel, which was an excellent 3 course fixed menu. Parking availability played a big part in choosing the Lion d'Or, even though the hotel doesn't have it's own parking facilities. The hotel entrance/reception is on the ground floor on the Rue Richelieu, which is a narrow street with no parking except for drop off. However the rear of the hotel is on Ave. Dr Dormer and this street has about 12 free on street parking bays and a free car park with about 40 spaces. Furthermore, there is a key pad/intercom security door into the hotel from here. Tomas came up and let us in, straight onto the 3rd floor level which was very handy for our room. All in all, I'm glad we stayed here, it was a lovely experience. I imagine it's great when Cauterets itself is livelier.…

Booked night before our stay for an impromptu stay in the Pyrenees whilst on a road trip to Spain. Arrived a bit earlier than expected but made very welcome and shown to our room after checking it was ready. Lovely room (4). Spacious, comfy bed, great shower. Hotel is very quaint and full of mountain memorabilia and brassware. No sign of corporate branding which suits us just fine. All the family and staff were extremely friendly. Cauterets is a beautiful small resort with a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Head up to the top of the mountain. The views are spectacular and well worth the 15€ each. Loads of restaurants but if you want a particular one, make sure you book! All in all would highly recommend the Lion d’Or and definitely hope to return.

An absolute gem. Family run charming hotel. Spotlessly clean, decorated with taste and incredibly well-equipped rooms. Delicious home-made breakfast and warm welcome from the family. Cosy lounge and bar and really well situated, right by the town centre. There isn’t a negative word to say about this amazing little hotel and I can’t recommend it strongly enough. They pretty much deserve a 4th star!
