We have stayed at the Chateau de la Verrerie three times--first in February 2004, again in November 2005 and most recently in October 2011--and just adore it, but as another reviewer observed, it probably isn't for everyone. If you require a television in your room, a lock on your door, and are offended by creaky floors, worn carpet and furnishings... More

We love quirky, character filled places to stay and this is a great one. But if you are looking for a modern hotel, with a broad range of facilities and amenities this is not the place for you. It really depends on your taste and interests. It is an old Chateau. But everything worked, there was plenty of hot water... More

I stayed at the Chateau de la Verrerie just for one night. After the check in procedure, a very nice lady gave us a quick tour of the chateau. The rooms have no numbers or keys. You really feel like you are staying at someones house. The common areas, such as the piano room and the library are great places... More

If you are looking for a corporate-style hotel where every room is air conditioned, this is not for you. It is a lovely old chateau, where they casually allow you to borrow bikes and boats and sport equipment. It made me feel a bit like one of the Famous Five - cycling through woods and rowing across a beautiful lake... More

My husband and I intended to spend one week of our honeymoon here in October. From outside the place looks gorgeous, but as soon as you enter the chateau you see and feel the signs of decay: The place is very old and damp and there just isn't enough money seemingly, to renovate it and put it into a condition... My husband and I got married a year ago and came to France on a 1 week adventure/second honeymoon. Pros- The chateau was by far the most interesting lodging we had on our trip. I'm very glad we stayed here. The grounds and the chateau are beautiful. It is well worth it to make reservations at the restaurant: Maison d'Helene.... More

The pictures are gorgeous, the castle is beautiful from the outside, the destination is truly in the middle of nowhere. I would not go back but it was definitely an "experience." If you have to visit that area, this is your only best option but it is still very spooky....a very old castle with very dusty old things in it,... More

This was my first time in the beautiful french countryside. I'm not sure I could have a more stunning location. A 17th century castle (yes, castle w/ its own church and all) near a beautiful pond and amazing wooded area. The place is extremely peaceful, the room (only 5 in the whole place) are huge and gracious. The place is... More

We have just returned from staying at this hotel. It has a lovely authentic feel about it although the rooms are not at all modern and new. We were there with the family and really enjoyed rowing on the lake in their little boat. There seem to be plenty of activities available and it is a very casual place. We... More

Wow. Almost reluctant to write. This is such a great place it should remain a secret! Make sure you give yourself time to just enjoy being at this place - rowing on the lake or cycling around the grounds. Absolute heaven. More
