Absolutely fantastic, well worth a visit. The Rooms at the front of the hotel are big bright and airy, High ceiling victorian rooms, but the rooms are warm. If you want peace and quiet ask for the rooms at the back of the hotel. Thursday night seems to be student night and occasionally sound travels from the revelers on the... More

Stayed at the Avalon when visiting Whitley Bay for a birthday party. The theme of the hotel is all thing motorbikes - in fact there is biker memorabilia everywhere including several motorbikes on the walls! Positive comments - the hotel was very convenient for the 'do', the room was clean, we had a nice large bathroom, the people were friendly... More

When I was in Whitley Bay in December, the owner of the Avalon Hotel invited me to come and celebrate his 50th birthday in July 2011. Which I did. It was a celebration from Friday until early Sunday morning. I met very nice members of his family, members of the hole in the wall clan bikers, and other bikers. One... More

We stayed at The Avalon over a bank holiday weekend, not something I would recommend unless you 30 or younger. Having said that the hotel was good value. It is located fairly close to the Metro, there are lots of restaurants in the area and parking is available. The full breakfast was quite good. Room came equipped with a kettle,... More

My wife and I stayed for one night at the Avalon Hotel with our 2 Siberian Huskies. Really friendly staff, welcomed us on arrival and showed us straight to our room. Room was clean and tidy with a bath/shower, which was great. THIS IS ONE OF THE ONLY TRUE "DOG FRIENDLY" HOTELS WE HAVE FOUND AS OTHERS THAT ADVERTISE THEMSELVES... More

Found the Avalon by chance when we were on a biking holiday, stayed for 2 nights although has originally planned 1. Friendly people who run it and the breakfasts really set you up for the day. Went to the Buskers night in the bar and was made to feel really welcome. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Whitley Bay. More

We had a large, triple, room with a good size bathroom at the front of the hotel. No problem with street noise, although it was the off season so it may be noisier in the summer. They had a buskers night in the bar but we could barely hear it in our room. Breakfast is very good, cooked to order... More
