Myself and my partner thought we would try something different for new years eve and so we booked into the Hallgarth Hotel. We have stayed previously and always found the hotel of a high standard. New year's celebrations were organised amazingly well. The food was great, the staff were excellent and the room was good. Cant wait to re-book for... More

First visit to the hotel in mid January 2012 whilst visiting Durham on business. The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the A1 and a 10 minute drive to the centre of Durham. Comfortable room, friendly staff, good dinner and breakfast. More

Lovely location and impressive building but not quite what its made out to be. Some lovely locals working at check in, well furnished however the carpet is well worn in a lot of places and could do with either renewing or having just floorboards but i suspect the latter would be too loud. My room was a single and was... More

Booked a "restaurant" meal for my wife's birthday but ended up being offered the bar meal menu. A huge disappointment. Crayfish tails advertised as a "prawn" cocktail. Waitress forgot to bring the wine until reminded after first course. Been here several times before but it is definitely going "downhill" in terms of service. They clearly don't have proper chefs cooking... More

We hired a conference room for a business meeting - the room and the entrance corridor was so bad it became a joke for the day. The corridor was dirty with dirty carpets and ripped wallpaper (one pic attached), the room was so unfit for a meeting it was untrue - the projector screen was too narrow and the projector... More

Spent a night following family wedding last month. Terrible room despite being promised a superb double room for our £90. Poor standard all round and a very rude welcome. We had to sleep on top of the bed as the springs were poking through and found some fibres in my breakfast - horrible. We left comments on the feedback form... More
