You stay here mainly for the fantastic restaurant and the ability to just climb the stairs after a great meal with probably too much wine. Like many of these type of places there are only a few rooms (4) all different and nothing like a standard corporate hotel (which is why we like to stay in them). We really enjoyed...

This is probably our 3rd or 4th visit and the quality has always been consistent. Obliging owners, comfortable rooms, and great food.
All staff very helpful and professional, rooms nicely furnished and comfortable, with each one of the 4 having its own character. Minor criticism is that they could perhaps all do with a little sprucing up. Restaurant is first...

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night on the way to visiting friends. We stayed in the Sir Thomas Hardy room. Although the linen and bathroom were clean, the room was shabby and dated. The carpet had a number of stains, the paintwork was chipped and scuffed and the room was generally in need of redecoration. The bathroom...

Stayed here the night before a family wedding. Lovely room. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Freshly squeezed orange juice and great coffee! Would like to have sampled the restaurant menu, but had to join other wedding guests at the Normanton Park Hotel. Owner very helpful and we were able to park at the rear of the property. Woke to find...

We stayed at the Lord Nelson House (in the Thomas Hardy room) for 3 nights in August. This is a beautiful property and full of character but is showing some signs of wear and tear. However, cleanliness was not an issue and the quirkiness of the building (creaky floorboards and wonky walls) just added to the experience for us.
As...

I had to double check that I had input the right hotel when I looked at the one of previous reviews. Perhaps it has changed hands since then. Hadn’t read any previous reviews on this or any other hotel in Oakham has had originally planned to camp in the area. However after a four-hour journey from London in torrential rain...

We stayed there overnight to escape a frantic workload. It was more than excelled food wise and the service was intimate, without being obtrusive. Our only criticism would be that whilst character excuses many things there is no excuse for a dirty bathroom or being woken by the papershop next door at 4 30 am,when
the other rooms were empty, and this was obviously...

I think this place must have gone downhill since the last review.
The Lord Nelson calls itself a restaurant with rooms - 4 in all.
I can see that it must have been a nice place once upon a time but it is great need of a revamp. I understand that it has recently changed hands so this might explain...

I have stayed here 5 or 6 times over the last two or three years, usually on occasions when I don,t feel I can justify the much, much greater expense of the excellent Hambleton Hall Hotel which is a few miles away.
The Lord Nelson House is more of a restaurant with rooms, I think it has about six in...
