We booked at the last minute for a stop over on a long journey. Our room had fantastic views of the Wye and was clean and comfortable. The staff, most of whom were from South Africa, were very friendly and provided good service in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The only niggle was a cold breakfast but that was... More

Just got back from one night away in Ross on Wye. Fantastic place, the hotel exceeded our expectations! Our room was a very large room with high ceilings and a floor to ceiling window over looking the river and fields. Such a wonderful view to wake up to. Lovely food at lunch and the staff from reception to the bar... More

Had a 2 night break here at the end of January. Nicely situated, pleasant staff, especially the lad behind the bar, who showed us to a nice table beside a roaring log fire! Floorboards very creaky in our room (14) and you could hear creaking up above all the time. Breakfast could have been hotter, food in evening fine.. More

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in June 2011 as we wanted a good base for touring the area. We had a very large room with wonderful panoramic views and enjoyed it so much that we decided to return as soon as work commitments allowed. We stayed again for 5 nights over the New Year, and it did... More

We stayed here last weekend with friends booked on a special deal via the local newspaper. We were not dissapointed. All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Its a great base if you want to explore the Forest of Dean etc. We ate in the hotel both evenings and the food was lovely and service efficient. Would definately... More

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend break (Friday - Monday) The hotel is old but perfectly adequate. The hotel bar seemed to be populated by locals (which is not a bad thing!) and is very busy. We arrived late on Friday and the car park was full, it is pretty small. Anyway here is a tip if... More

We stayed at the Royal for 2 nights (27th & 28th Dec) and enjoyed it very much. The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. The only downside was the access to the rooms (we had room 50), it was quite a way from reception and up a lot of stairs, so if you have mobility problems you should advise... More

Saw it on line but made the booking direct with Old English Inns and secured a better deal..! The room (No 14) was adequate for our needs directly over the main entrance and although not "a room with a view" check out my photos! The whole hotel seemed to be very comfortably warmed...not unwanted for the time of year (... More

We have just returned from a 2 night package at the Royal Hotel in Ross on Wye, we stopped on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st December for the New Years Eve celebrations. We stopped in room 49 which was a good size room with a wonderful view of the countryside and the river and was lovely and quiet. The New... More

We took a late deal here because we couldn't get to Egypt because of the riots, so it was a complete contrast. We arrived on Christms Eve and settled in to our room and enjoyed our dinner. To be fair the food was ok (carnivore) and good (veggie) and the room was ok - with a great view. We liked... More
