Very good location. Nice-looking building outside. Inside shabby, could be wonderful, but needs serious updating. Poorly maintained, and reception staff seem to be left to pick up the flack when things go wrong. Very imposing position. Good car park. Easy to find. The staff were excepionally friendly, welcoming and worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable. Booked via Old English Inns website, not realising until arrival that the Hotel was only 2 star rated; it became apparent why this lowly grading had been awarded. Our room was large and airy with double aspect views across the Wye Valley but details were missing - no trouser press or in-room ironing board, no shower cap, no body lotion... more

Booking and check in where very efficient but that's where the good things about this hotel end. Staff seem to be mostly from the southern hemisphere and could do with a few days at the customer services training academy, mostly interested in congregating in the car park smoking and on the terrace drinking off duty.
