His old pub is on a beautiful spot surrounded by lovely countryside. Unfortunately the current owner seems to be more focused on making money than keeping guests happy. The bar didn't open until 6pm and despite their still being guests drinking he closed it promptly at 9pm as the batman didn't get paid past then. Its a shame as it... More

We are sorry that this guest did not enjoy their stay due to our bar opening hours. Our winter opening hours (which all the locals are well aware of incidentally!) have been the same for many years. If we closed at 9pm it would have been a Monday night which is well publicised as the only early closing day; even... More

We brought a group on deal for this hotel, so didn't really know what to expect. The hotel is a lovely family run hotel in a very quaint little village. Other than walking there is very little to do in the village, but it's only a 20 minute walk in to hay on Wye. The room was lovely quite recently... More

We had 3 nights here at the end of January and the hotel actuallly exceeded our expectations. We were greeted warmly and the various do's and dont's clearly explained. The room was comfortable and warm despite the bitterly cold weather. Breakfast and other meals were of a high standard. What really makes this hotel special is the staff who were... More

The bar was nice with log fire but thats about the best thing I can say about it. Outdated, shabby, and pretty sure the beds had bugs. We were itchy as soon as we got in the bed and were covered in tiny red bites all over for the next few days. There was a spider web over the kettle... More

We find this guests comments extraordinary, malicious and quite slanderous. Everything seemed fine on the first night, however, on the second, we were surprised that the female guest was not present for dinner. During morning check out, the gentleman was asked if everything was ok he said yes, it was fine, but his wife had been admitted to hospital the... More

The Baskerville Arms is an excellent hotel; well, not a hotel as such, as Dave the owner is at pains to point out, but an INN. Hotels, as Dave says, are centred on the rooms, an inn on the bar. (Don't let this distinction put you off, though -- our room had a jacuzzi!) And the bar does not let... More

Tom, Thank you for the kind review and we are glad you enjoyed yourselves. Its great for guests to take us as we are and not as they would like us to be. That distinction between an Inn and a hotel is quite important as many do not understand these fundamental differences. It means that unless a property is purchased... More

Toby from Swansea, Many thanks for the favourable review and we are glad you enjoyed yourselves despite the weather! I'm glad you enjoyed the food in particular, as we pride ourselves on the standard of pub fayre that we serve. We are very lucky to have Joel (our French Chef) with us. That menu spend limit with dinner included tariffs... More

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel, particularly as the locals were using the venue for an auction for the local hunt. This created a very convivial atmosphere on the first night, the second was rather quiet. The food was good and the breakfasts outstanding, we certainly did not feel the need to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. The big... More

Karen, Glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay. You were in room 5 by the way, and the deep red walls are a bit too much for some people; its on our list to paint with good old magnolia! I thought I'd respond to your comments on the spend limit. Having been on the receiving end of 'special... More

No doubt, as in the case of everyone else who has paid their money and been disappointed enough to award the place a single star, i will get a rude reply to this from management, but hey-ho, i couldn't care less. These are the FACTS. Firstly we stayed for New Year 2011-2012. We travelled a considerable distance too. 300 miles... More

We don't actually do rude replies. The management responses made so far - according to the guests review for 'so many other people' (I think the FACT is maybe 5 or 6 out of 102) can in no way be construed as rude; sarcastic maybe, but sometimes, sarcasm is the only thing left to show peoples' comments for what they...
