Stayed here late April for one night. Located well, right next to the train station. Parking was available from early morning even though I was unable to check in until later. Only one key available for the room, which wasn't ideal, but the keys were actual, real keys rather than card-keys so understandable that they don't keep duplicates. Room was... More

There is nothing positive to say about this hotel aside from the central location and imposing exterior. Everything else about this hotel is very poor! The room was boiling hot, even though the radiator was turned off. The bed was either extremely old or just broke! Either way it was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever tried to sleep... More

Imagine an old railway hotel and you will not be disappointed. Clearly the hotel is going through a gradual refurbishment, but some areas still leave a lot to be desired. This is a very traditional Victorian building, which in its heyday would have been spectacular. It faces the station and is very central for the town centre. Bedrooms are very... More

We have stayed at The George at least twice a year for about 5 years. It has gradually been updated during this time and is now becoming a very acceptable standard of decor. (if you ignore the big stain in the dining room ceiling where there has obviously been a leak)!. The breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful. The room... More

Have stayed at The George for years and have seen the changes, mostly for the best. Executive room large and bright amd bathroom reburshished and spotless, bar sells good beers and spirits, staff very helpful, professional and polite especially Terry the night porter and a bubbly French girl who checked me out in the morning !! Breakfast of smoked haddock... More

Even though the staff were friendly and the hotel was in a good location it didn't really make up for having to take a handful of painkillers and sleeping tablets just to sleep. My travelling partner described the bed in a nutshell as: "like a sponge." On the second night we slept on the floor. As you can imagine, lying... More

Hotel is clean, friendly staff, great, central location. The building is begining to show it's age, and could use some investment. If you manage to get a good room rate on internet then its a good place to stay. if you have to pay £75 for double (std rate) then you may feel its a bit pricey. Breakfast is good,... More

Stayed here last weekend as part of a music group (approximately 25 of us) in town for the St Patricks Day Parade and all of our group of various ages were very impressed with the hotel. The staff couldnt have been nicer to us and any problems we had (I dont think we had any actually) were attended to promptly..The... More

At £75 for an "executive room", i would have been better spending my money on a cheaper hotel and probably get a better room. They'd changed my name on the booking, so she didn't quite believe who i was until i gave the exact address i'd booked it under. Disabled access was good, with a working lift and a ramp... More
