We were most impressed by the quality of the food and service at the Spirit restaurant in the Auld Kirk Hotel. The central feature of the restaurant is a giant reproduction of the 'Spirit of Ecstasy' (as on the bonnet of your Rolls-Royce), which is a trifle bizarre and slightly over-powering. We assume that there is a good reason for... More

We stayed for 2 nights in October. The room was lovely, well furnished, decorated and clean. No view though - but want a big deal. If I was being picky, I'd say that looking forward to a shower under the big shower head was a disappointment due to the poor water pressure, but only a minor blip. We had dinner... More

It may be called a hotel, but I've never been 'phoned by a hotel three times in a row to be asked the exact time of arrival. A half hour window was not acceptable as the duty manager "lived 5 minutes away and didn't want to hang around waiting for our arrival". We had planned to eat in the hotel... More

Just returned from another stay at this fantastic hotel. Spent the night for my wifes birthday, and dined there as well. Lisa and the rest of the staff were fantastic. Made feel very at ease right from check in and all the way through. Evening meal was beautiful, even although we were told when booking it was a limited menu... More

Stayed here with friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff were friendly and very welcoming so we felt at ease from the very start. Food was great as were the rooms. A real feelgood factor about the place. More

This had good reviews when I looked on trip advisor so perhaps expected too much of it but having stayed at a wonderful and much better and more personal B&B on the way for less money.I found the bedroom very ordinary (but clean) and the rather impersonal feel a disappointment. The breakfasts were great and the waiting staff lovely but... More

We chose The Auld Kirk as we like to chose "quirky" places to stay and for its location as we were going to the Ballater Highland Games. Our room was very clean and comfortable but similar to many hotels, you wouldn't really know you were staying in a converted church. Breakfast was very good. We had dinner in the restaurant... More

Took my husband here for his birthday - dinner bed and breakfast. Thoroughly loved the whole experience from the warm welcome, the top notch (locally sourced) food, beautiful ambience, excellent service to the extremely comfortable room. We needed to leave before 8am and were very grateful to Lisa who brought a cooked breakfast to our room before breakfast was officially... More

We stayed at the Auld Kirk in there superior room for 2 nights at the end of July. The room was slightly disappointing as there was nothing to say you were in a converted Church with is what appealed us to staying here, the want of feeling we were staying somewhere special and different. The room, in our opinion, was... More
