Stayed 1 night for double celebration. On arrival we were told we had been upgraded for our Anniversary. What wonderful news! Never happened to me EVER before. We had a 4 poster bedroom overlooking the courtyard + a huge ensuite in the old part of the hotel. Staff left 2 celebration cards in our room too. Ate in main restaurant... More

Most hotels fight to keep guests from eating outside their properties, so when you see the hotel restaurant full on a Monday night, you know you're in for something special. It's not cheap, but it was worth every penny. Great food and service to match. Loved it. Rooms are small but modern, and very friendly staff. Happy to recommend it. More

We ate in the main dining room and I have had good and bad experiences there before. However, this time the meal and the service was very good. I had the wood pigeon with a cepes (mushroom) risotto to start and that was one of the best dishes I have tried for a long time. I had the roast beef... More

Having eaten here several times during the past 6 months I felt it would be a perfect choice to celebrate my birthday. My previous experiences have been top quality, with great service and wonderful food. This time utterly different!!! We ordered 2 x billingsgate fish & chips and 1 x warm chicken salad. The fish batter was more like pork... More

Thank you very much for taking the time to review us here on Trip Advisor. I was delighted to read that the service by the waitress was excellent and that you enjoyed the ambience, but I was, of course, saddened to see that you didn't enjoy your food. Our fish and chips are amongst the best sellers here at the... More

The minute you walk into this hotel you are greeted by attentive staff, the open wood fires burning and that aroma of the burning woods. This hotel has not changed much since those days that it was used as a stage coach stop back in the 16th century and earlier. Many features / markings can be found on the stone... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review about your stay with us. We have so many comments about the open fires, they do add something special to the hotel, especially at Christmas time. It was also great to read that everything was excellent for you from the staff to the food and rooms... More

I always stay at The George when visiting friends in Stamford, normally just before Christmas. They decorate the hotel beautifully with fresh foliage and the courtyard is lit with Christmas trees. They even have a real fireplace. It is the little piece of Olde England, which I miss living the other side of the pond now. I book online, and... More

This is a great hotel. Old, quirky but with staffing levels that allow proper service. The food was excellent and the ambience brilliant. Fresh tea delivered in the morning is from another era but non the less classy.. More

Amazing place in every way. Quirky, oldy worldy, if you want to be comfortable sitting there having a brandy by a log fire reading the paper then this is the place for you. We have stayed here 3 times now, our first time was NYD in 2009 then we did it again the following year, then i couldnt resist trying... More

Didn't stay the night here but had a meal with the family (6) between Christmas and New Year. This wonderful old Inn was decorated beautifully. The food was good but suffered from the mad rush. The salad bar had almost run out and we found ourselves scraping the dishes in order to make up the 'plate' we had opted for... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and your kind comments about the decorations. Yes we are always very busy here at The George, but I was sorry to hear about the salad buffet. The chefs should have picked this up as our buffet should look good from start to finish, regardless of how busy it is.... More
