The staff is very friendly, the pies are great as well as the breakfast and the other evening meals.
Spacious and very clean rooms, nice hospitality. Children are welcome. You feel like home.

We stayed here as a halfway stop to a wedding in Norwich, choosing it in preference to the Premier Inn style of blandness. This is always something of a gamble but it certainly paid off this time.

We used this Pub as a stageing point for dropping one of our sons off at the nearby University of Hertfordshire. We all had an excellent meal in the Benick's restaurant. The boys really enjoyed the famous pies, while we ate from the main menu. Everybody gave full marks for their meals!

As it says in the title, traditional roadside Inn's offering bed and breakfast are getting harder and harder to find these days. Most have been taken over by the large breweries and modernised within an inch of their lives. Not so The Chequer's Inn, which maintains a mid 20th century charm about it.
