We spent two nights at Hotel Burgenland so we could go to concerts for the Haydn festival at the Esterhazy Palace. It is a characterless modern pile at the end of a delightful pedestrianised street about three hundred yards or so downhill from the palace where the concerts happen. So it is convenient and there is nothing really wrong with the hotel if you feel at home in a characterless modern pile. The room was like those anywhere in the world in other modern hotels. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. Luckily the temperature which two days before we arrived had been 30 degrees celsius had reduced during our stay because our room was not air conditioned and we were able to open the windows to cool the room off after the sun had gone round. Breakfast was OK but not any better than that. If you go to Eisenstadt there is probably no other hotel to stay in, so Hotel Burgenland 's monopoly in the town probably accounts for its falling short. more
