We stayed at Kex 16-23 April 2012. I booked it in December for my other half's birthday present (trip to Iceland inspired by the film Gnarr about Reyjkavik's major Jon Gnarr). The place is pretty much how it looks on the website - lots of vintage furniture and cool styling, people hanging out on macbooks with fresh coffee, live bands,... More

Booked a twin room at Kex at the last minute, without looking too much into it. . .was pleasantly surprised on arrival. About a minutes walk from the main streets in Reykjavik, the hostel entrance is a small nondescript wooden doorway which we walked past twice before noticing. Once inside though, the place is full of character and is very... More

We stayed here for just under a week in a private room. The rooms were fairly basic but warm, very clean and the beds were comfy. The communal toilets were clean and the showers were great. The self catering kitchens are fine, although lacking in sharp knifes and tea towels and the fourth floor kitchen doesn't have a kettle. The... More

We stayed at Kex in March 2012 and it's definitely the best hostel I have ever stayed in - more like a boutique hotel really if you stay in one of the private rooms like we did. The reception and lounge area downstairs is really cool, full of interesting stuff to look at and loads of information about Iceland. The... More

This was the first hostel I've ever stayed at and I was very impressed. I get the sense that Kex is pretty much an upscale version of the typical European hostel. I booked a bed in a 4-person room. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and I was lucky enough to be in a room facing the water,... More

We stayed in Kex in August 2011 and were instantly amazed at how well run this hostel was. I've been in hostels all over Europe and this is the hands down the best. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, which is great because Iceland is an adventure that is a bit rough to begin without guidance at the start.... More

Just back from a few days in Iceland. We based ourselves at the Kex and were not disappointed. All the bus companies from the airport drop and pick up from the hostel which is a massive bonus. The staff at Kex are helpful and friendly whether it be at 10am or 5am. The rooms were tidy and most importantly, well... More

We just returned from a five day stay at Kex Hostel. Throw away your precinceived ideas of what a hostel is like; the private rooms are akin to a B&B stay. While there is no private bathroom, the shower/toilets ARE little private rooms - you don't share. Service is excellent and staff actually show you around so you know how... More

Absolutely brilliant place to stay. Beautiful sea views, large kitchen, super friendly staff and bar staff, comfy, cosy, loads of interesting books to borrow and big old sofas to curl up on. Candelit bar, spotlessly clean, individual bed lights, very reasonably priced beer, loads of cooking space, a couple of minutes walk to the town centre and nearest supermarket, a... More
