What my family and I loved about Skjaldavik Guesthouse was the personal environment and attention to details which made us feel very welcome. A great place to relax after long day of traveling! The younger kids played in the garden among with the animals on the farm while my teenage son preferred the hammocks. The wonderful homemade breakfast buffet was... More

This is a largish guest house with some of the friendliest hosts in a friendly nation, a 45 minute walk for the strong-of-leg or a 5 minute drive from downtown Akureyri, a kilometre off the main road, so nice and quiet, with horses, dogs, sculptures, a walk along an agate-strewn beach, sweet and bright interior design, warm in the cold... Location, design, food and comfortability is top notch! Oli and his wife have put a lot of effort into making this place fabulous and it shows! It's both a home and a guest house. Friendly staff, lovely room too. Shared facilities but there's lot of bathrooms anyway and a wash basin in each room. We were given a choice of... More

Not enough words to praise this place, its location, its interior design, the quality of beds, common areas, the warmth of peope working there, their service, their authenticity - and the smile on the guests' faces. Here, you relax. Only downside might be shared bathroom facilities, but there are plenty, so don't worry.

From the minute we pulled up on the drive and were greater by two friendly dogs I loved this place. It is not a city hotel, don't expect it to be, think more farm stay. The staff are very friendly and there are quirky decor and pretty gifts for sale all over. Its clean and friendly and the trust in... More

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 10-day tour around Iceland. When I was told we were staying in a converted old people's home I was a little surprised and apprehensive. However, this was totally misplaced. The main accommodation is all on one level. Each room is slightly different with a handbasin. There are several bathrooms, again all... More

The guest house is modern, beautifully decorated. Rooms are spacious. Beds comfortable. Communication was great. On a good night you can see the Northern Lights from the hot pool in the back paddock. Very very clean and well equipt. Breakfast was the best we had in Iceland and the level in general is high so this is a big acheiement... More

We stayed at Skjaldarvik for 3 nights and totally loved it! This place is just outside Akureyri in a large farm type setting. The rooms are spacious, common areas are large and well maintained and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of horses on the farm and the two dogs are adorable. Would definitely return... More

First off, this lovely guest house is just North of Akureyri- you get the peacefulness of a remote location, but you are very close to the city. The guest house was originally a retirement home which you will see reflected in the wide doorways, hallways, and bathrooms. It has been redone entirely with shabby chic theme- lace decorations, white washed... More

After a very long day of driving from the airport in Keflavik, This was such a welcoming sight after a long day of travel. It is a family run business nestled right on the beautiful fjord. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The owner really tried to give each wing of the guest house a distinctive theme which was so... More
