Just 2 hour plane trip from Europe, Madeira's Reid's Palace Hotel is a piece of heaven on earth. Gardens are superb, the Terrace and the Sea deck are taken out of an Agatha's Christie's book scenery. You understand why Winston & Clementine Churchill loved the place so much. The service is absolutely excellent. The Gala Dinner is exquisite. And the... More

This isn't the ambience of a typical Funchal hotel, from the service, quality, and amenities, when compared to other 5 star hotels I stayed in island, I dare say deserves truly 5 star. From the moment we arrived we were received with such sincere warmth, our travel anxieties were instantly calmed by the staff friendliness. The hotel is traditionally-styled, charming,... More

Just returned from our usual annual visit and and the only change, was the refurbished sitting room where we usually read the thoughtfully provided daily newspapers. The staff were once again superb and made our visit a pleasure. More

My wife and I were not hotel guests - we only stopped in to see the hotel while on a cruise, to see if we might want to stay here in the future. Other reviewers spoke of poor treatment of cruise guests who come for tea, but this was far from the case for us. We were appropriately dressed for... More

We stayed at Reids in the summer and enjoyed a week of complete relaxation and excellent service. We stayed in a charming room which is their most basic room and we found it to be excellent, we had a small balcony with a lovely view and the room was perfectly comfortable and if we return to the hotel we would... Just returned from a week at Reid's. Not our first time in Funchal (have visited several times via cruise ships) but our first stay in this very pretty island town. Imagine Edwardian glamour, a large helping of Britishness, beautifully maintained gardens, fabulous pool area, a little stuffiness perhaps (fellow guests rather than the hotel); peace and tranquility - all atop... From the street outside the dirty pink building makes impression of cheap hostel. Inside, however, halls are decorated with nice furniture and pictures of famous visitors to make you feel you are among those important persons. Receptionists are different, some helpful, some not at all. To find your room, breakfest/lunch restaurant and swimming pool, you need a good guide -... More

Dear Guest, Many thanks for your contribution and review. I am concerned if you have been in Madeira during the month of November. Besides many other works done throughout the year in our hotel, the façade to the street (estrada monumental) was totally painted in October 2011, having a fresh and clean look, so calling it dirty and cheap can... Time at Reids is always a delightful experience; we have lost count now of the number of visits, but every stay has featured common themes. Very attentive, charming and polite staff are one of the hallmarks of the hotel, the gardens are a delight, and a wonderful sense of relaxation settles over us as soon as we arrive in our... More

Stayed for 7 days last week . Staff are well trained very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a "charming room" a little on the small side but beautifully appointed and super sea view with small balcony. Clean sheets every night and all aspects of service superb. We eat twice at The Cipriani restaurant which was excellent. The hotel appeared... More

We stayed at Reid's Palace over October half term. The weather was mostly good but we did have some rain and one afternoon a complete down-pour. The temperature in October is pleasant but certainly not hot. The hotel is a grand old lady complete with a Bridge Room, Snooker Room, Tea Terrace and opportunities for Grand Dining experiences and elegant... More

Dear Guest, Many thanks for your contribution and detailed review. Definitely the October half term has became our peak family period, with the hotel adapting to the multigenerational clientelle we have during that time. It was a pity that last year the weather was not the best. As for the Teenagers room we do have since Christmas new games. Regardless... More
