This was our second visit to Quinta do Rio Touro, and I hope there will be a third before too long. Like last year, we stayed in a suite with our two small children, and it was difficult to find any faults at all. Total peace, beautiful house and perfect garden for kids, and delightful service. You could travel many... more

Breathing the serra and feeling the waving ocean. .. this place has the signs of my inner Portugal, not the material one, but the portugal of the “imaginal“ (Corbin), which is very real for me. If you are looking for that kind of roots of this land you will get some answers walking to places like Sintra or the Quinta... more

I worked as a wwoofer at the quinta for four weeks. Fernando and Maria were very welcoming, and although I didn't have much experience farming/gardening I learned a lot during my time there. I stayed in a really nice room, met interesting people, and was able to enjoy the hotel (pool, library etc) as well as the extremely beautiful surrounding... more

We found this lovely B and B through Alastair Sawday's Special Places and spent 5 days there after a hectic working time in Lisbon. We were so well cared for by our hosts who are the nicest and most cultured people and lets hope one day we can return and go on reading from their extensive library and relaxing by... more

I worked there for a week, and had to leave suddenly because of a family emergency. The lady Maria and the "ambassador" Fernando told me they didn't believe my situation and never even said goodbye. Maria even called the airline to verify my flight to Boston. Horrible people who didn't care about my family situation. And they never even offered... more

Our first impression was maybe this is a beautiful monastery, but after walking into the center court yard we realized it was an amazing private residence. Our room was the library, which was truly a unique experience just looking at the great collection of literature took up most of our first evening. Maria was outstanding making our stay and breakfast... more

Quinta do Rio Touro is like a dream -- from the ocean views, to the sweet smell of lime blossoms, to the antique guest house - this farm is the quintessential, of the beaten path, Portuguese experience. The patron and patrona are hospitable, gracious and knowledgeable -- the housekeeping staff keeps the rooms clean, fresh and tidy, and serves a... more

A few weeks ago, we stayed at the Quinta do Rio Touro, a small B&B on an organic farm just outside of Lisbon. Although its only 30 minutes from the Lisbon airport, it is a rural area in a beautiful, peaceful setting. We stayed in the Azenha suite in the main house, and our 10 year-old son slept on a... more

We started our trip through Portugal with a visit to Sintra & stayed with Fernando and Maria at the Quinta do Rio Touro. One could not ask for a better beginning! Beautiful & quiet surroundings, organic gardens and very lovely rooms. Our hosts educated us about the area & helped us plan out the "must see" spots in Portugal &... more
