Haarlem is a beautiful city, ok the square outside the station is up but the church in the city centre is beautiful and there are a host of good eateries and shops in the surrounding streets more

Stayed there during the tulip festival so I think the rates where higher than normal at that time. The room was nice, clean, quite small. Bathroom also nice and clean, pretty new, but also quite small. Staff were friendly. Breakfast area was good as was the included breakfast. Seemed a bit pricey for what you get, but a decent stay. more

Terrible, We thought we stayed their for a nice weekend trip in Haarlem. The hotel was a big disapointment. The rooms are old fashioned, the carpet is full of spots and their is absolutely nothing that gives you a warm and luxurious feeling of staying in a hotel. I booked here for a business trip because I couldn't get another hotel. But the Lion d'Or was a nice surprise. Centrally located, just opposite the railway station, but also on walkiing distance of the historic town centre. Although the hotel is located at a busy street, it was not noisy at all. This is a wonderful cozy hotel,just across the street from the train station. We stayed in room #2 and room #16 during 2 different occasions. Both rooms were lovely. You can't beat this location for touring in Holland. The train is 50 yards from the Haarlem train station with trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station (15 min), Leiden (20 min), The Hague, Delft, etc. We stayed 6 nights there in early September in preference to crowded Amsterdam, and were really happy with the choice. We stayed here for a weekend in March. We were in room 16, which was big, comfortable, and clean. An extra bed was brought in for our two-year-old, and it still felt spacious.
