In the pulsing heart of Venice, adjacent to the vibrant and brightly colored Rialto fish market, it's the perfect place to start experiencing life the venetian way.
You are staying in a very historic and old hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are very nice by European standards but what stands out for me is the service and friendliness of the staff. At check in the owner gave us a map and made several recommendations for dinner. The areas to stay away from etc. The hotel is down a very narrow street that you would swear was an ally so keep an eye out for their sign as the place is not that easy to find first try. One night late someone was trying to break into the place. While they did not make it in and we never felt unsafe either day or night I feel I should mention this. The other couples we were with had a room facing the street and they heard a fair amount of noise so if you go ask for another room.

I recently stayed at this location. There are numerous stairs to reach the lobby. Then you have to climb another set of stairs with your luggage. The front desk staff was very rude at all times. The breakfast was the worst. I really can’t say anything great about this location. I went with a tour group and this was the hotel selected.

Dearest Nora, You were given a room on the second floor, 35 steps to climb. The agency that books the Tours warns all Customers that they will be staying in a hotel with many stairs to climb and without a lift but you have decided to book the tour anyway As a result, we are rude, breakfast is terrible....ect. ect. We wish you all our best Kind regards Monica & Roberto Ps. Our Palace is 800 years old...

The one star rating does not do this hotel justice at all. It is in a great location just beside the food markets and so close to the Rialto bridge. The owners are welcoming and helpful, giving good restaurant recommendations and tourist information. We had a family room on the top floor with plenty of space and a decent bathroom. Breakfast was typical of Italian hotels and more than satisfactory. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone visiting beautiful Venice.

I can see why Rick Steves locks this place down for his tours! It is perfectly located for all sites, beautifully maintained, and run by some of the best hosts imaginable! They are amazingly communicative and very patient with frazzled tourists like this one! I was lost trying to find the waterbus terminal and was greeted with calm and thoughtful help. We stayed in the Apartment Fraia and it is fantastic. Every amenity, comfortable, and spacious! If I can, I will book this apartment every time I am in Venice!

DISASTROUS, Owner took our money and gave us a room on the third floor Liked · Breakfast, very good. Shower room, very good. Close to water bus station. Disliked · WARNING…NO LIFT AND SOME ROOMS ARE ON THE 3rd FLOOR, UP 60 STEPS. Reception on First floor, we were offered a room on the 3rd floor, no lift, no assistance with luggage and my wife has mobility problems. Refused the room and asked for a refund, NO CHANCE!! “You booked a no refund room” the owner said, the lady on reception found us a room on the same, 3rd floor for one night only. After breakfast, had a discussion with the owner who didn’t want to know. We walked out and went to another hotel, (costing €340)

Dear Guest, Our building is 800 years old and it is not possible to equip it with an elevator. This information is very clear on the site where you made the reservation but you still booked and choosing a prepaid and non-refundable rate without even writing a message about your difficulty climbing the stairs. We always ask our guests to read carefully the list of services and all the infos about the hotel in order not to suffer any inconvenience. You have reserved the last room available located on the third floor with 60 steps to climb . For the first night we was available to help you with one room on the first floor, about the second night our hotel was fully booked. Our apologies. The Owner had offered to take your luggage to the third floor but you didn't want to and it was really embarrassing your reaction. We explained to you that it was not possible to be satisfied you and stay on the first floor because the hotel was fully booked but you did not want to hear any explanation. We are sorry but you have behaved incorrectly by blaming us and above all the Owner for a reservation that you made independently probably without reading what services our hotel offers. Regards Roberto the Owner

We just got back from a lovely European family vacation with our 2 college aged children. We stayed at the Pensione Guerrato for 3 nights in their quad room on the 3rd floor. (No elevators - but we didn’t mind and it added to the charm). The room was clean and reasonably priced. Every staff member we met was extremely helpful and kind. Our flight back home was canceled the evening before we left and we had initially set up a water taxi through the hotel for an early morning pick up. Once we got our travel arrangements worked out (long story but our family were on different itineraries and the airlines had us all on different flights on different days- a complete mess - ugh), we asked the night reception person at the hotel if we could change our water taxi time. Luckily the owner Roberto, who had made the original taxi reservation for us just happened to call while I was trying to figure it out and helped us change the time. Roberto was wonderful!! He made the change for us that night (it was after 11pm) and even walked us down to the dock the next morning to make sure we were in the right spot!! WONDERFUL above and beyond CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Others are correct. There is a cafe/bar nearby that stays open very late and unfortunately it was loud. Certainly not the hotels fault but unfortunate. Hopefully they can work something out to control the late night noise in the future. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. It is near the Rialto Bridge and the fish market. Very easy to walk everywhere but a-little off the beaten touristy path! A GEM!…

We had a very pleasant stay at Pensione Guerrero for three nights. The hotel was charming and impeccably clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we particularly were impressed that the hotel arranged a specific breakfast sitting got us so that we could make an early morning train. We really enjoyed their breakfasts, especially the croissants, juice and coffee! The only drawback to our stay was that it coincided with a long weekend and our room was directly over an outdoor bar that did not close until 4 am. The noise from below kept us awake all night. This was not really the Pensione’s fault but it did detract from our stay. I would recommend staying at Pensione Gurerrato but beware that the rooms on the first floor can be noisy .

We stayed in one of their apartments. It was lovely. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect location for everything it’s near the Rialto bridge, but away from the tourist madness. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helped with multiple recommendations around Venice.

I don’t understand the rave reviews or solid Rick Steves recommendation for this place, especially regarding the service. The hotel itself is fine and about what you’d expect in Europe. However the service is not great - one really nice and helpful young man, an older man who is helpful though not very friendly, and a woman who is downright rude with a nasty attitude. We asked her for a dinner recommendation, and she dismissively said “walk to to square, there are lots of restaurants, pick one.” Every time we spoke with her it felt negative. More importantly, the breakfast is AWFUL! Honestly the worst breakfast I had in 2 months of traveling all over Europe. Everything is pre-packaged and tasteless, including the hard boiled eggs which are so rubbery they’re disgusting. There’s so much packaging, in fact, that every table has a personalized mini trash bin. Bad for the environment, bad for your nutrition, and disastrous for your taste buds. Just don’t understand these reviews.…

Buongiorno juliekAKUSA, Thank you for your review. However, we never respond to reviews, but we have something to say about yours. At check-in we give all our customers a list of restaurants where to have lunch and dinner, these are obviously suggestions. No one is ever told: "walk to to square, there are lots of restaurants, pick one.” When and if the customer decides to go to one of the restaurants that we suggest, we show the route to take to reach it. In our breakfast there is very little packaged. Almost everything is served fresh. Brioches, bread, ham, turkey, cheese, and eggs. You didn't like it and that's okay. We don't feel like judging other people's taste. Packaged things are single serving because crackers, rusks and biscuits cannot be touched by anyone due to a hygienic factor. And this is what we believe is right and regulated by the Italian Ministry of Health. The mini trash that is on every table is used to collect leftovers, butter or jam paper, yogurt jars, etc. to then recycle in the kitchen. We are sorry that you misunderstood this situation, but for us it is the only way not to waste and recycle all the rubbish. Even if negative, your opinion is very important to us. Regards Pensione Guerrato - Staff
