We stayed at the Palazzo Contarini della Porta di Ferro by accident, when the budget hotel we had booked ran into problems and arranged for a transfer. To our surprise, we found ourselves installed in a spacious suite, with a full kitchen, a rooftop balcony and a view overlooking the city. Outside the heavy double doors of the hotel lay... More

I can't say how much we enjoyed our 4-day stay at the Palazzo. The Palazzo exudes old gothic Venice, and the neighborhood is so charmingly local Venice and far far from the crowds. We stayed at the Palazzo Contorini for 3 days and for a friend's 60th birthday party which was held in the grand lounge. It was perfect! Private caterers provided a 4 course candlelit dinner with pre-dinner drinks and canapes for 24. It was the perfect location for the event, and our hostess says that the manager, Christina, just couldn't have... More

Centuries ago this was an aristocratic palace and it has been carefully and gracefully restored. The common areas are awesome with 30 foot ceilings and the suites, with original Venetian marble flooring, are delightful. Palazzo Contarini is in the Castello district, unknown to most toursist so away from the noise, but only a 10 - 15 minute walk to Piazza... More
