After a long drive from Belgium to Italy my first stop is the Starhotel du Parc in Parma. Clean rooms, helpfull staff, bikes available to go into the city. Prices including breakfast and really not expansive. Free parking space.

Quirky but enjoyable hotel experience -- comfortable rooms, welcoming reception, crowded breakfast area and decidedly quaint dinner service, with a dining area at the other end of the hotel from the kitchen. From the back of the hotel, through a park, is a short walk to the historic centre of Parma.
