We were pleased with these very basic accomodations. They would work for women traveling alone or couples. Ukranian sisters manage the convent, very little English is spoken but really isn't a problem. Rooms were basic but clean and acceptable. Convent is on a square that can have a lot of noise. Breakfast was rolls, jelly, cheese and either coffee, tea... More

I stayed there for three days, in november, I had inside room so, fortunately, it was silent. The zone around is AWFULLY CAOTIC! But, this place could not be called HOTEL, only because there is reception, because there are the rooms with the bathroom.......It's too poor for being called HOTEL. Anyway, for whome needs a quite clean place, near to... More

Well priced convent (50 euro per night) lodgings with great location in Rome, walking distance to colosseum and other roman ruins. The train station is about a five minute walk away and the train (metro) easily takes you to the centre of rome and all other attractions. A number of places to eat nearby. Price per night included breakfast which... More

Simple, clean, quiet, and convenient. Wonderful also having the Church attached to the lodging. No complaints at all. Will certainly look to stay here again next trip to Rome. More

I stayed here with my daughter and sister. The room seemed nice enough but it was very hot. We were on the second floor and opened our windows to get some air circulation. During the night someone climbed in our window and robbed us while we were sleeping. More

The perfect place to stay for a budget-conscious female travelling alone! The sisters and staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are clean and bright, and the curfew is midnight - much later than most convents. The breakfast is a bit skimpy (rolls and jam, juice, tea, instant coffee), but if you plan to enjoy the real Rome you'll have... More

great location. However, rooms on the outside have a high level of noise due to busy square. not autos, but people at wine bars, polictical groups, local families and just people sitting around by the outside fountain, A great place to enjoy a slice of the real Rome Rooms are becoming tired because they are not being looked after by... The Santa Sofia/Madonna dei Monti pension hotel is, as indicated, a good value for the money, in a convenient location (just a few blocks from the B-line Cavour metro stop). It is run by Portuguese/Spanish speaking Ukranian nuns, and if you don't speak a little Spanish there can be a bit of a language barrier. However, at night there is... More

For me, it was a great location -- between the Colosseum and the Vatican. Pluses: 1) PRICE OK. 2) fairly private 3) elevator 4) church attached 5) good Chinese restaurant and small grocery stores a few steps away. Minuses: 1) very basic rooms and beds (could use some interior decor) 2) curfew -- doors locked at 11 p.m. 3) strange... More

Madonna dei Monti also goes by the name of "SANTA SOFIA" (actually the name may not even be "Madonna dei Monti" as this is just the Piazza it is located on). I first stayed at this convent/hotel in 1990. At that time it was a beautifully preserved 400 year old building which originally housed the Basilian Fathers who have since... More
