In point form: - Horrible front desk service - Rooms are about 100 years old...I smell moths balls - When you ask for a non-smoking room...you get one...but your door has a gap at the bottom that allows plenty of smoke from the rest of the hotel to creep in. - It feels like you are sleeping in a rundown... This hotel is is a great location, near the train station etc. 15 min walk from the Colloseum and the forum. Everything was a bit basic. No tea making facilities and the electrics seemed a bit dodgy. It is OK if you only want a bed and are out all day and in the evening. I wouldn't say you could... More

Not as bad as some of the previous reviews may suggest which perhaps could be a little harsh, although a down to earth attitude is required for this hotel to enjoy your stay in Rome, rooms are basic but comfortable with colour television and mini fridge, interior is old fashioned but a little dull but a OK breakfast and a... I spent some time resourcing and chosing my hotel for my trip to Rome. The Hotel D'Este was my final choice and the price was reasonable. However, the Hotel failed to meet my expectations. Firstly, my room was at the back of the hotel with little natural light. The furnishings were aged and in need of upgrading. The wallpaper was... More

I stayed for 5 nights in October 2010. This was my first time in Rome and I am really glad that I was staying a Hotel D'este. Only a short (10 min) walk from the train station, but ni a quiet and safe area. Close to public transport, Mary Major Church, grocery stores, restaurants, cafe...etc... Always someone at the front... More

We were pleased with the room and the breakfast--big for European travel--and the location was pretty good too. The desk help was very spotty. The poor guy who was working Saturday night seemed bewildered when we asked for help making a reservation at a restaurant, and we had a lot of trouble trying to organize our taxi for the airport... This was my second trip to Rome, and together with my wife and children for the first time. The standard, service, food, rooms and facilities at this hotel is far below 3 stars even for Rome. We had a 10 day stay with two children and found we needed to buy breakfast every day our selves due to the standard... More

This hotel was excellent. The staff were lovely, welcoming and always willing to help with directions or taking bags to your room. The location near to the main station was great. Also very close to most of the main attractions. The facilities were great, air con amazing, bar great (but shut very early), food was also great. I would strongly... More

Convenient location near Termini Station but our room was dark with a persistent smell from the drains in the bathroom. The shaver light and socket, tv and room safe did not work and there was a part missing from the window vent which meant it could not be closed. The fittings are very old fashioned and in poor condition, and... More
