Beautiful restored cave dwelling adjusted for a comfortable and quiet stay, just at the border of the historic zone. Very friendly reception by Manuela and son Paulo. Easy to find by car and one of the few places with parking possibilities in the Matera historic area. We had a room at the first lower level and the large bathroom built... More

We stayed here in January 2012. The place is really beautiful and Carlo, the host, a very nice guy. When we arrived the weather was pretty bad (raining and cold) and the street where the B&B was located looked quite discouraging. However, once we got in, the impression changed substantially - the place is in a sassi, full of charm... More

We just returned from a very short but wonderful stay at Casastella. Both Manuela and her son Paolo were charming hosts. The B&B is beautiful and, as earlier reviews indicated, very clean with a lot of care taken to details, starting from the lovely bathroom to the beautifully presented breakfast. While my husband and I enjoyed the warm fireplace in... More

This is a lovely place to stay. Our room was perfect - in a sassi, beautifully decorated, with a view into the valley. Great bathroom - everything very clean. It was very close to both areas with caves. The owner was friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast. More

Casastella is one of the loveliest places I've stayed; extremely comfortable, masses of character, beautifully furnished, and an exceptionally friendly welcome. We stayed in the one of the original cave rooms, which has a stunning view out into the gravina which the town clings to. Our bathroom was also a former cave and has to be seen to believed (it's... Stayed just for 1 night. The B&B is very charming, but simple. One of the rooms has a beautiiful and different bathroom. The bed was great and the room clean. The reception guy explaint us about the B&B history (as it was a Sassi's house in the past), explaining what was each of the rooms. The breakfast was served with... More

We came across this wonderful inn quite by accident and were so pleased! It is beautifully decorated, very charming with up to date bathrooms, beautifully appointed. The breakfast presentation was wonderful with fresh, yummy food. Our innkeeper was delightful and helpful. The inn is in a great location for exploring the ancient "sassi". More

This is by far the nicest B & B we stayed at during our recent trip to Italy. We were two couples staying in a place for four couples, so we had complete use of the entire B&B, including the lobby, which is more like a living room/dining room. Manuela and Franco are young and eager to please. With their... More

This is an absolutely beautiful B&B just outside of the main centre, but just a short walk away from the Sassi and the town. Location is great since you can park for free on the road just outside. We ended up in the suite which has a huge bedroom and a separate bathroom across the hall which is absolutely amazing,... More

This was one of the loveliest experiences we've ever had in Italy! CasaStella is a beautifully rennovated sassi that is cozy and warm. Manuella & Franco, the creative owners, have paid close attention to every beautiful detail in this historic sassi right on the side of a cliff. Our stay began by stepping in to their lovely lobby tastefully decorated... More
