If you were to walk into a stranger's home in a strange town, this is the home you would want to walk into, and Manuela is the person you would want to welcome you; she is a sparkling, smiling, and simpatico hostess. This is a sassi, beautifully renovated by her charming, artist husband Franco, and it is as warm, inviting... More

This place is perched on the edge of the gravina (a sort of canyon) and in the spring you can hear water running below and birds twittering above. I awoke early and had a perfect view of the "point of the sun", that is Italian for the sun rising. There were even cows mooing in the distance. Even though the... More

we are a Family from MIami and for us any Italian Destination is like traveling back Home but Matera was extra special and it was because of Manella her son Andreaa and the splendid property they own. the waking up to the smell of fresh desserts and croissants with jams prepared by Manuella every morning was great. our family took... After 23 years or marriage my spouse and I went to Matera on a romantic getaway and stayed in Casastella from the 5th to the 7th of April 2013, it was without a doubt the best B & B we have ever stayed in. The owner Manuela and her son Paolo made our time in Matera an unforgettable experience and... More

It was the nicest BB on our Roadtrip in Southern Italy. This friendly place is managed with a lot of love and a strong sense of art. Breakfast is also good and it is served at any time you want! Ask for the room with the stone shower.

Having just come from the amazing ruins of Paestum, impressing us was going to be difficult. But Casastelle is simply special. A beautiful restored Sassi house with views and rooms to die for, from the exterior it appears to be just another door in the street but inside the rooms are extraordinary. We stayed in the downstairs accommodation which featured... More

We spent three nights a Casastella. What a wonderful experience to stay in this restored Sassi house with a breathtaking view of the valley from our window. Manuela and her husband are both artists and you can see their attention to detail, their creativity, and their artistry in every aspect of Casastella. We loved Matera and were very moved by... More

We spend three nights at the B&B Casastella in Matera. A wonderfully restored place close to the Sassi in Matera. You will stay in an old building with a stunning bathroom that has been featured in multiple magazines. Our stay was fantastic, the owner is very accommodating, the B&B is close to all the sights and the rooms are breath-taking.... More

It was such a pleasure staying with Manuela and Franco at their Casastella B&B. This is probably one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed in! Reaching Casastella by car is very easy and so is parking, which is very positive compared to staying in the actual sassi themselves. The location of Casastella is very good, with great views... After spending the last two weeks jetting about Italy visiting lots of wonderful places, Matera and especially Casastella B&B was a clear stand out. A welcoming reception, totally one of a kind accommodation & a magical town. The only (very slight) downside for us was that although the breakfast was lovingly put together it was a little to sweet for... More
