Having just 1 hour to kill, I went there with one of my colleague. It was a bit touristy however we enjoyed a drink in one of the terrace. Waiters were polite and efficient. Interesting location to watch the word go by. Lots of illegal street sellers on close-by street , not controlled very well by local police!

Easy to get to from central Madrid, the Plaza Mayor reminds me of St. Marks square in Venice. Surrounding by high buildings on all 4, sides, grab a table at a cafe and people watch. If you're lucky, you'll catch the wanna-be Spiderman that stands in the square. It's open and spacious, so it's also a great place to relax.
