This hotel was located right near Plaza Mayor where there are cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. On the first night, there was a live classical orchestra playing and we ran outside (jetlagged and half asleep) to find the plaza full of people eating, drinking and soaking in the atmosphere on a hot summer's night. It was a great start to... More

Happened upon the Plaza by accident while waiting for El Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world, to open for dinner. Tons of street vendors trying to sell you something. Keep a close hand on your purse and keep nothing in your pockets at a venue like this. We had no issues of pick pocketing, but we also didnt make... More

Hotel Plaza Mayor was where we stayed at the end of our long 6 week holiday of Morocco, Portugal and Spain. It was a great location and close to the subway, plentiful cafes, bars and restaurants and some sites. Our room was on the 4th floor on the corner with space and a great view. The area is a bit... This hotel was very well located (within a block of Plaza Mayor) and within walking distance of the Palace, Museuems, etc. Lots of good restaurants located nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful, spoke english, the breakfast was good and the room was clean and updated. Things were a bit small, but thats the charm of a European hotel. It... More

Having just 1 hour to kill, I went there with one of my colleague. It was a bit touristy however we enjoyed a drink in one of the terrace. Waiters were polite and efficient. Interesting location to watch the word go by. Lots of illegal street sellers on close-by street , not controlled very well by local police!

The plaza is full of excitement, but gets boring in a hurry unless you are in the mood to shop or eat at subpar restaurants. You could spend hours here or 5-minutes depending on your interests. The bull bar, Torre del Oro, is worth a stop. The places I ate at were not worth a visit. The best thing about... More

Easy to get to from central Madrid, the Plaza Mayor reminds me of St. Marks square in Venice. Surrounding by high buildings on all 4, sides, grab a table at a cafe and people watch. If you're lucky, you'll catch the wanna-be Spiderman that stands in the square. It's open and spacious, so it's also a great place to relax.

Stayed here during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and paid a very good price. Beautiful corner room with balcony overlooking the plaza into Plaza Mayor. Quiet at night and very friendly staff. The room was very clean and modern. 3 Large floor-ceiling windows and the corner balcony made the trip. Ask for a corner room and you can enjoy the balcony!... More

This hotel is located quite close to the Plaza Mayor, a very attractive square in the heart of Madrid. The most surprising aspect is that the hotel is very quiet given its location in a busy part of the city. The rooms are not very large but overall OK. The breakfast is very good and cheap when compared with what... More

There is some debate in Spain as to which city has the most impressive square/plaza. Salamanca, Toledo and Malaga have reasonable claims and the Plaza Espana in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the little known capital of the Basque region, is a gem. However the cobbled Plaza Mayor strikes a chord with everybody entering it for the first time: it is here that one... More
