The hotel is in a lovely location overlooking the chateau, which is fantastic once the crowds leave - it feels like you have the whole place to yourself. The hotel and room are very quaint, decorated like a grandmothers house - but that suits the area. The room and bathroom were very clean, with comfortable bed. The only downside I... More

Are you Louis XIV, XV? No! Ok, so try this place and feel like a King ! You'll be noticed you are going time back just in the moment of coming into the forest around the Chambord Castle. Hotel St. Michel, is just in front of it. Yes, IN FRONT. Few meters away. You surely can go to visit the... More

The two-star Grand St. Michel probably won’t win any awards as the chicest, most up to date hotel, but it is the only hotel where you can be the last person to see Chambord castle at night, and the first person to see it in the morning! That was more than enough reason for me to stay here. With 45... More

We had low expectations as the hotel doesn't need to do anything to get it's guests - it is in an amazing location! Having read tripadvisor recommendations we asked for a renovated room when booking. We didn't realise that we could get reduced rate access to the chateau of Chambord as guests. We paid to park in the chateau parking... More

We just returned from a trip to France and stayed for the 4th time at the St. Michel in Chambord. While I agree with many of the writer's opinions, as to the hotel being dated and a bit shabby, the view of the chateau makes up for all of it. We always choose a room with a view overlooking the... OK. This was my fourth visit to Chambord – my favourite Loire Chateau – and my third stay in the hotel. In my opinion, one of the most stunningly located hotels in the world…after the crowds have gone, in the evening, and before they arrive in the morning one has the most beautifully tranquil vista of this gorgeous and imposing... If you like your hotels standardised and Anglicised, this is probably not for you. The rooms are fairly unmodernised - which we found charming. The staff are not great English speakers - which we found natural, this being France. The view of the chateau from the terrace at dinner was lovely - but the constantly hovering waitress who was clearly... More

We stayed for two nights & had a room with a view of the castle. Our room was clean but needed a little updating but they seem to gradually be updating all the rooms. The restaurant had the most amazing food, we ate off the set menu both nights & weren't disappointed. We sat outside both evenings for dinner and... More

Stunning location, perfect for catching the night time show at Chambord - didn't even have to leave the hotel. We had a room overlooking the market stalls at the side of Chambord. The room decor is dated, but adds to the charm of the hotel. Breakfast room is beautiful, and the terrace restaurant served excellent food. Rooms are good value... More

We stayed at L'Hotel Grand St. Michel on our way to the Dordogne. The rooms are a little shabby chic (not on purpose) and the beds aren't that comfortable. If not for the setting this would be a barely average hotel. However, the restaurant is excellent and the views in the morning and evenings cannot be beat. More
