I stayed again at around the same time as last year as I got a cheap room (£35). It was the same tiny room, same decor, same curtain that needed putting back up correctly! At least the housekeeping staff had done their job this time and it was clean. The breakfast was good and on my last day I needed... More

We stayed here as part of Oxford Inns January sale which gave us 2 nights B&B for just over £80. If you want a modern Premier Inn type experience then for goodness sake don’t stay here! However if you want to stay in a charming old hotel which must have been spectacular in its day then give it a go.... More

Our double room had all that we needed and was excellent for the price. Bathroom was good and it was nice to have a bath as well as a shower though the plumbing made strange noises and the bath was a very slow filler. Hospitality tray was rather poor (standard Nescafe and Typhoo, no biscuits) and though the bed was... More

In need of a bit of maintenance (especially in the bathroom!) our room was comfortable enough. It was a stormy night and the old sash windows didn't keep out the noise of the wind or the nocturnal revellers. Sounds like 412 would have been a better choice! We had a side view towards the Castle. The old lift did work... More

Booked this room as a last minute thing, as a stop over on the way to the Isle of Man (Heysham). Room was as to be expected really, although the windows are old, and let all the outside noise in, there was a man hole cover outside, which banged everytime a car went over it. So annoying and kept me... More

This hotel is lovely. It needs a bit of updating outside but the inside is pretty spectacular. The room we had 412 was lovely and spacious and had all the mod cons in it. The reception staff are very welcoming and pleasant. They were very well informed too. This has once been an extremely grand hotel. The lift fits in... More

I stayed in the Royal Kings Arms on November 16 2011. I was working in Lancaster the next day and the company booking agency made the reservation. My heart sank when I read some of the reviews of the place and I fully expected to be booking into a cross between Fawlty Towers and a Salvation Army night shelter but... More

Proper ole fashioned period hotel. If you want a inexpensive place to stay then book here. If you want a uniformed clinical environment then book a Ibis or Permier Inn. This hotel is a little dated perhaps but with loads of period charm. For the price you pay you can't complain. Few mins walk from the station and right in... More
