We spent 4 nights here in July '11, spent nearly $1,000 for our 2 rooms, and I can't say we ever felt welcome here. The B&B is immaculate and the beds were super-comfortable. The breakfast was also quite good. The location in Salthill is not convenient if your intention is to spend most of your time in Galway and don't... More

Catherine and Paddy Lydon make you feel welcome and go out of their way to be helpful. The B&B has Galway Bay views, and Salthill has a lot to offer including golf, casinos, pubs, and restaurants. Old Galway (Quay St.) is close and has a lot to experience. The rooms are very nice and well appointed. The breakfasts are delicious... More

If you have any sense at all and plan your trip with a touch of intelligence, you will know that this place is a bit out of the way being located not in Galway City, but rather in Salthill but know this as well, it is a wonderful stay in every other manner. Catherine greeted us warmly and was very... More

Really lovely home with a beautiful room! Two blocks from the bay and a 30 minute walk along the bay to reach Galway. Wonderful breakfast in a beautiful, sunny dining room. Catherine, the owner, was so warm and friendly and helpful during our stay. We happened to be in Galway during the Volvo Ocean Races festival which featured an air... More

Pros- hosts are wonderful--highlight of B &B ! Catherine booked our tickets to Aran islands (a must see!) Cons-we like to walk everywhere and this was really, really far from the town (60 min). Rooms were clean, but small and not modern. Food was okay. More

Immaculate rooms and lovely decor. Plenty of nice fresh fruit at breakfast to go along with the Irish breakfasts. Catherine was very helpful in letting us know how to navigate downtown Galway and book a tour of the Connemara National Park. Her warmth and concern for our well-being was much appreciated. We actually stayed an extra night in Galway because... More

We chose Carraig Beag for the Galway-area stop in our honeymoon drive around Ireland due to the glowing recommendations of a highly-regarded tour book. We stayed there for several nights. It's basically a large house in a suburb of Galway with lots of rooms (as opposed to a large guesthouse-type B&B). Mrs Lydon was very friendly and helpful. As soon... More

A beautiful place inside and out, without a speck of dust. Great Irish breakfasts with homemade bread. Catherine Lydon was wonderful to us...she went out of her way to help when we left our camera in a taxi. You should let her help you book your trip to the Aran Islands...she doesn't mention it on her website, but she told... More

We chose this B&B because it got a recommendation in a well regarded travel book. We arrived at 1pm by taxi and after a tiring morning were very disappointed to find a note on the door saying "will be back at 3". We were forced to cool our heals in the rain for 2 hours until the owners returned. I... More

My first few attempts to find lodging in Salthill failed, but in the end I'm glad I stayed at Carraig Beag. The house is located on a leafy suburban street. My ground floor double room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Salthill made a convenient base of operations for touring Galway, the Arans, and parts of the Connemara. The Lydons were... More
