The approach to Ayen Cottage is very daunting in the dark, a longish cart track taking you round the back of the property leaving you wondering if you are in the right place. But there all doubts disappear. Carol is waiting for you at the door with a warm welcome. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast is chosen... More

A near perfect blend of warm welcome, comfy bed, super breakfast and helpful tips for our Islay stay. A really delicious breakfast with good choices which sets you up for a fine day touring this very unique island. Carol's homemade lemon curd is the best we ever tried!!! More

When arriving at the ayen cottage my first impression of the outside was: 'chaotic'. But then... A very friendly welcome by Carole. A very clean room (and WIFI). Super breakfast. Carole knows everything about islay and can give the best tips on visiting. We will return. More

We had booked at the Ballygrant Hotel but they had re booked us at Ayen cottage due to overbooking. After an extra 2 miles cycling we had a super welcome from Barry and Carol to the excellent accommodation provided. After a super meal at the Hotel Barry serenaded us all on his trumpet before retiring to the most comfortable bed... More

It was our third stay on Islay but the first one in a B&B. We did not regret to have booked Ayen Cottage. Carole and Barry offer an ideal place to stay and it is close to the port. We enjoyed their hospitality for three days and we can definitly recommend it to other tourists. More

We stayed with Carrol for one night at the end of our two-week tour of Scotland and it was our favorite B&B of the trip. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time on Islay. We stayed in one of the en suite rooms and the room was spacious, warm and had wonderful views of the surrounding farm... More

this was our first time on Islay and it Absolutely will not be the last time, Barry & Carole were very good hosts, the cottage provided an excellant base for trips round the Island, Carole provided directions (but getting lost on the island is part of the fun) and a very good breakfast, the rooms were very clean, with tea... Myself and 3 friends stayed at the Ayen Cottage for the Islay leg of our island hopscotch cycling trip. After enduring some of the most horrendous conditions for cycling we were delighted to reach our accommodation for that night. It certainly didn't disappoint. Barry and Carole have a beautiful place and were the perfect host and hostess and made us... More
