Clean, simple, good value - does what it says on the tin! Good kitchen. If there's a coach party of schoolkids staying you will hear them through the walls, but that's true of most hostels.

We stopped there with a group on the way to the Orkneys and again on our way back.
The first time it was very disorganized. Registration took forever and the staff seemed overwhlemed. The room we had was dirty and smelly but at least we were in the same room.
On the way back, registration still took forever, they were...

The only problem I have to point out is the shower on our Family Room. It only had two settings, super-hot or "Hell on Earth". Other than that, an incredible Hostel.

We stayed here in a private room while on a tour. The room we had contained a twin bed and a bunkbed. It also had a sink which is convenient. The staff were helpful with any requests, but the wifi did not work in our room (even though it costs money) and we ended up using their computers downstairs which...

As a regular customer for 3 years I can say the customer care/service has collapsed to the point where I'll no longer use this hostel. I can only assume this degeneration is linked to the loss of the previous manager. Even when the hostel is practically empty, staff seem to take delight in piling customers into the same room ensuring...

The hostel is described as the SYHA's 'flagship' by one leading travel book. I would hate to see the others. We only stayed a night, so did not need to make use of the kitchens or lounge space; but the hostel failed to provide the most basic requirement - a restful night's sleep. The bunk beds in our twin room...

The whole place is really clean and neat. rooms are cozy and toilets are spotless. rooms come with basin, toilets are shared. there are cupboards for your backpacks and a small table and some chairs in the dorms. there are also small bedside lights, but it'll still shine at beds across. Kitchen is extremely well-equipped, almost like those hotel restaurants'...

I've used this hostel since it first opened and was dismayed by the decline in the facilities when last there. The lounge was a dismal, almost empty TV room and the kitchen had been stripped of most good equipment - and it WAS very good previously. As you might expect, the atmosphere was also dismal, tho I will say the...

Lonely Planet said this hostel was 'modern' and 'the best hostel in the country'. I beg to differ. Looks like a hospital from the 1960's. My room was at the end of a long narrow corridor, far removed from anywhere else. No lockers in the rooms. Not many bathrooms. Directions on the internet said 400m from the station. Didn't mention...
