My husband and I stayed in this Hotel for one night during September. The dining area was shabby and needed updating. We asked for some ice to cool our bottled water and were told rather gruffly that we could not have any. The room had a velux window and the curtain fell down the minute I tried to close it,... More

Had a one night stay here in the Pentland Suite family room. Children were delighted to have their own separate bedroom and both bedrooms were very comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a good dinner and breakfast, although everyone in the hotel seemed to come for dinner at the same time so kitchen and waiting staff were a little... More

With early morning ferry reservations looming, we stayed at the Castle Arms so that we would be able to start the day fresh and have a sort drive to the ferry. We were comfortable and well cared for during our short stay. We had dinner in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. It looks out on a lovely garden area... More

Stayed here for a night whilst touring around Scotland. Very handy for visiting the Castle of Mey which is just down the road. The annex room was clean, spacious, comfortable and warm (the heating was on, even though it was early June and the weather was unusually warm!) and had the benefit of easy access to the car park and... As most other people have said, this is an acceptably quirky place in an area of Scotland with a derth of good hotels. John & Myra certainly make this hotel a joy to visit. Yes the rooms are a bit "Sixty-ish" Yes they could do with a bit of work, but they are clean and tidy and are good value.... More

The Castle Arms is not for you if you want a modern swanky hotel, but you probably won't one of those in Caithness anyway. It has a bit of an amateur feel about it, and in this small village loaction manages to double as the village shop, pub, restaurant and hotel, but it's totally charming and the hosts are friendly,... Excellent hotel and friendly welcome. Good choice of fresh food and excellent to use as a base for Castle of Mey, Dunnethead and John O Groats. More

We had a room in the annexe, which as has been previously mentioned was very damp. The grout in the bathroom tiles was black with damp and the room was very cold with a musty smell. The walls were thin and we could hear the people next door talking, coughing, etc, hence a very bad night's sleep. On the positive... More

The host was extremely nice and gentle, the room was very spacious and finally I found very dark and heavy curtains that allowed me to sleep very well also in the morning! We chose this hotel because it was only 15 minutes by car from the ferry to go to the Orkney, so great location as well! More
