Other than prestigious places such as Forss House, this part of Caithness from Lybster right round to Durness is surprisingly devoid of quality hotels, and Melvich Hotel is ideally situated for both tourists and those travelling on business. Despite the distance from Thurso, Wick and Tongue, the near empty roads permit fast driving, and Thurso in particular has a dearth... More

The room was pleasant enough with great views over the bay.. It seems they are modernising the hotel bit by bit as some of the corridoors looked a bit dated. The food in the hotel was the best of our Highlands trip, freshly caught fish for my wife and heavenly Venison in Beer with a cheese crust pie for me.... More

The twin room was plesant, looked recently decorated, Tv was good size wall mounted and it scould be positioned. The room had a twin sette and armchair. A very nice large bathroom with a separate bath and shower.A big plus for me the bed had sheet and blanket with a additional bedding in the wardrobe. Many times I have had... More

Thank you for your review. We're glad to have got the facilities and comfort level in your room just right - temperature control in this part of the world can be tricky! It's a shame that you didn't feel our breakfast quite hit the mark but are pleased to note that you felt our evening menu was both ambitious and... More

Along the 30-mile drive from Thurso to Melvich we were seriously wondering why the heck we had decided to book a hotel in such an isolated place for two nights. We were pretty sure we would end up somewhere shabby, run-down and damp, so we started to look out for not-too-bad-looking B&Bs along the single-track road leading to Melvich. And... More

Wow, what a review - We are blushing! It's good to know that appearances can be deceiving and we turned your expectations on their heads. Also that you felt relaxed and welcomed here at the hotel. It is our number one priority that guests feel at home and this has clearly been the case. We are working on our tech... More

We lived in Caithness for 25 years and visited the Melvich many times. We returned after several years for a meal with a very good friend. The restaurant has been modernised and the meal we had was wonderful. One of the best in our whole trip. The service was first class and the food excellent.

Very welcoming hotel with comfy, clean bedrooms and in a great location. This makes an excellent base for touring (as we were) or it would be good for a longer stay, there is plenty to do in the area, including walks, beaches, and places to visit including the fabulous chocolate shop at Coca Mountain in Durness. We were given a... More

We're delighted to be mentioned in the same breath as Cocoa Mountain - our favourite stop further west! We're delighted that you felt at home here and that you made the most of our local menu - over eating is allowed when you're on holiday! There is a lot to do on this coastline so we do hope you come... More

The tablet ice cream is addictive! You need to enjoy lots of outdoor sports here in order to live in close proximity to it! We're so pleased that your stay was a good one and in particular that you enjoyed all the local produce - both food and the craic in the bar. Thank you for your lovely review and... More

We stayed one night en route from the Orkneys and were expecting a 'standard' small hotel experience. Rob welcomed us with great friendliness and we were pleasantly surprised at the level of appointment at the hotel - our room was spacious and tastefully decorated and the hotel had some nice art and some small designer touches. In particular, the residents'... More

Thank you for your very kind review - Rob is delighted to have been name checked! We are so pleased that you had the best possible stay here and enjoyed all aspects of your visit. We'll take your note on board about improving the rather hushed atmosphere at breakfast though! Do come back again when you are in the UK... More
