My husband and I spent 3 nights at the RLS house in September and found it to be a wonderful experience. Upon arrival we were greeted with hot tea in the dining room and a dram of fine whiskey in our room. We have 3 beautiful grandchildren, so loved being a part of a family. The twins, with their blonde... more

Since I have to go to northern England and Scotland quite often because of professional reasons, I was very glad to find the Macfie familiy and their wonderful house. In this B&B, everything is just perfect: the atmosphere is so friendly and warmhearted, that one immediately feels at home. The six Macfie-children, ranging from lovely two-year-old-twins to almost grown up... more

I've stayed more than once at the Stevenson House and will do so many more times in the future. To arrive at the door is to be immediately embraced into the bosom of the mildly eccentric Macfie family life; you may find yourself having breakfast with the charming children, conversations with Mr.Macfie about RL Stevenson, Scottish genealogy or almost any... more

Oh Traveller - read these reviews - I wish we had. To pay £120 a night for an ensuite room and then to find the family's washing hung up to dry in your bathroom; the drawers and cupboards in your room and bathroom stuffed full of your hosts personal posssesions and clothes - to find these were being accessed when... more

I use tripadvisor a lot but have never written a review, until now. My experience at RLS House compeled me to change. As usual, I went on Tripadvisor to find a nice B&B in Edinburgh. Although there were some negative reviews on RLS House I figured these may be the few out-lyers that can sometimes bring a place down in... more

Really good location (5 minutes on foot to "rose street" and 10minutes to "royal mile"). The hosts (Macfie family) are really nice and thoughtful, you can't complaining with the food because they bring everything you want. They have children but they aren't noisy. John and Felicitas will be delighted to speak with you, and you can't get bored during breakfast... more

This is the most charming B&B i have been to. With the complete family atmosphere and hospitality, it transformed what would have been dull business weekend into a warm and delightful experience. I will continue to come here in the future. more

Caveat emptor . . . though the bones of this historic house are exquisite, the RLS House website does not remotely provide the described ammenities nor depict it's inner appearance. Does "misrepresentation" come to mind? The owner of this home, a gentle, articulate and intelligent man seemed pulled in many directions . . . the details of hosting a B... more

I concur with most of the reviews already posted. This is not your typical B&B, and therein lies its charm. It's like staying with a family who live in an historic and characterful 1804 Georgian house. The Macfies were truly welcoming, as were their offspring, the youngest of whom are darling 2-year-old twin girls with whom I shared breakfast each... more
