wouldn't stray more than two or three streets away though - full of nut-buckets, so keep your hands on your wallet more

We stayed one night at the Malmaison on a shopping/football viewing trip to the city. We normally stay in a different part of Edinburgh but as everywhere seemed booked up due to the Festival starting, we got a late deal on the hotels own website that included dinner from a specific menu (though we could have ordered from the full... more

Stayed for one night in a standard double room with my wife. We were let in to our room 3 hours early by the receptionist! This was a great start. The room was nice, the decor could have done with a bit of updating, however, the room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was superb, all the staff were... more

Just returned from a great trip to Scotland. I only book in advance because the risk of not finding a hotel warrants doing so. Thus, I took a chance on the Malmaison, based on guide book descriptions. The only available rooms were suites, priced at $350. Although technically speaking, they are nice rooms, the hotel has a cramped and isolated... more

Just spent 4 nights (midweek) here and both of us were a bit disapointed. I assumed we were put in one of their standard rooms, having payed the summer discounted rate, however, based on their website I expected a bit more than 'standard'. Our room faced out to a couple of industrial units which liked to start at around 6.30am.... more

I booked a Sunday night here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Being a skint student, usually such a hotel would be far out of my price range, but we took advantage of Malmaison's 'Sunday Supplement' deal which allowed us to stay for £10 (or £20 for a slightly superior room, like we did) as long as we spent £75 in... more

I stayed here for a night in May with my girlfriend. The lobby of the hotel and the bar area are very nicely done out. The room was a bit disappointing though. Basically it was pretty much like a nice travel lodge. Quiet enough and fairly clean. Nothing particularly distinguished it. Not amazing furniture or decor though, just really standard... more

Struggle to understand the receptionist who had some Scottish/Polish hybrid accent. Room was tired, loose plug socket. Sign in the bath room saying we shouldn't be worried about yellow water was a bit concerning. No Aircon in the room and only two small windows one of which would not stay open, unless you use some of the rooms ornaments to... more

I stayed here in November 2005 with my now husband. The purpose of our stay was a short weekend break where my husband actually proposed to me, therefore we usually wouldn't stay in such an expensive hotel, but it was a special occasion. Check in was quick and smooth. Our room was clean, modern and pure luxury! Mini bar was... more

We were in a superior double with harbour view, couldn't fault the room. Staff mostly nice, apart from one receptionist. Good value for money if you can get a deal. We went on a dbb or at least we thought we were until we check out and found we had been charged £14.00 each for breakfast. I only had one... more
