The Selkirk Arms has a lot going for it, its in a good location within the lovely little town of Kirkcudbright, it is steeped in history and it boasts a lovely rear garden. The staff are also very pleasant and attentive and it has its own car park. However it is just a bit tired, our bedroom definitely showed signs... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our Hotel and our apologies if we were off the mark. I take on board all your comments and agree with you in your observations of decor and ongoing refurbishment. We have spent quite a lot over the last 2 years behind the scenes, updating our fire alarm system last winter was... More

We made a last minute booking while touring the area after reading the positive reports on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted by the owner and shown to our room. The staff were friendly and our room was clean and comfortable. The hotel looks small from the road, but stretches towards the back. We had dinner in... More

Large and nicely decorated room in the garden cottage. Old coaching inn character comes through in layout, which initially seems a little poky. However once in any of the dining or Bruns rooms, plenty of space, great decor with lots of local artists paintings in the walls. Food is just first class. And what makes the hotel is the staff... This small hotel sets high standards; and the outcomes of staying here are that a) you wish every Best Western hotel was as well managed, and b) you wish there was a similar hotel in every other town in Scotland. The Selkirk Arms clearly benefits from having committed owners who have an understanding of what standard of hotel the market... More

We were greeted by the owner with courtesy and it was clear from the beginning that we would be well looked after. The public area are relly nice and the food was excellent if not a little expensive. However there seemed to be little or no competition in the town so why charge less!!. We were allocated suite 3 and... More

Thank you so much for your comments, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and that you were comfortable in our Suite - I just wanted to mention that the Antique roadshow television is in fact a portable 15" colour TV in the bedroom but the main living room of the suite does have a new 28" flat screen... This was our second visit. We were looked after very well. Our room was comfortable. the location is handy. There were two minuses - (1) The wireless internet had been updated but it did not work very well. (2) There a function and the guests in the hotel were moved to a small room adjacent to the dining room. More

Thank you so much for your review. Our sincere apologies for the wireless hiccups - we have just invested in a new wireless system throughout the Hotel and as often is the case with new systems we have had our fair share of teething problems. We have now added additional boosters to ensure the best possible coverage throughout the property... More

We picked this hotel because of its excellent reviews and were quite happy with our stay. The staff were friendly and obliging and the hotel itself clean and comfortable, the public areas and restaurant were nicely decorated, if a bit dated, and there was a buzz about the place on an evening as locals came to eat etc. The food... I stayed at the Selkirk Arms Hotel whilst down the South West on business last week. I could not fault it. The service from all staff was excellent. So efficient and friendly. The hotel was exceptionally clean and even had free wifi despite the fact that it was in the back of beyonds. Location was so peaceful, bed very comfy... More

We stayed here for two nights in April 2011 and were very happy with the hotel. We had a large room that looked out over the hotel garden (Room 20, I think). The room was comfortable, clean and quiet and you could open the windows. The shower was a little feeble but there was a bath as well and plenty... More

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Tripadvisor. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and apologise for the water pressure in the shower. We are in the process of refurbishing our bathrooms and hope to have the shower pressure fixed by the end of the year. Thank you again for your feedback. More

Stayed for the weekend on a photography course and we were impressed by the very pleasant atmosphere here and attentive staff. The room was good, we were glad to have our pet dog welcomed to the hotel, it means a lot to many people who enjoy rural breaks with their dogs. We were with a large group and the function... More

Thank you for such a glowing report. I am delighted you all enjoyed yourselves. There seemed to be a super mix of folk on Philip Dunn's photography course and you were blessed with glorious sunshine. ( I'd love to say that's how it always is here !! ). Again delighted you all enjoyed the food, we have a great team... More
